It is embarrassing watching a government that is divided so close to an election but if I were Rudd I would let her die at the polls then challenge for the leadership in opposition. That is the best ballot to kick Julia Gillard out of office. Let the people do it Kevin, then if you still harbour ambitions of being prime minister again then do it legitimately from being leader of the opposition.

agreed johnno...the conundrum for Labor is this...internally Rudd is hated but they all know that if he's reinstated as leader he can save as many as 30 seats going on current polling due to his popularity with voters. Gillard won't go as being PM is more important to her than saving her colleagues from electoral carnage...so now the rest of Australia has to witness this circus created by a chaotic government in its dying days.

Reckon no matter if Rudd gets the gig or not he would be dead in the water. Reckon shorten is biding his time, THEN when they lose, he is the "new" face of Labor. No advantage to him to stop the "mess" now

The current fiasco is the biggest political conundrum leadership wise in Australan political history.

It really is quite bizarre, Rudd is more hated in the caucas than the caucas,s will to survive, Rudd as Latham stated has embarked on a Jihad of damage against his own party the extent of which has never been seen before, ths is out of pure bile and hatred of those who knifed him. ..to make matters more complex his own party MP s have come out and labelled him a psycho. I'm convinced he is a rude hatefull little jerk as well as being a hopeless at policy

Problem is the electorate like him...maybe enough to make a contest of the election.,,well sort off.

Then you have on the other hand, Gilard who is hated in the electorate, crap polling and goes from o ne bungle to another.

I don't beleive ruddy will save labor, he can save some seats but not the whole show, gillards stubborn arrogance means she won't let go, and ruddy is a nutter who won't go away.

Most of the caucus is frozen in fear, no where to turn , no safe haven to seek.

So this is the ball of knots labor have tied themselves in, we have 80 odd days left now to endure the saga.

the mail is there will be a change in the leadership late next week after more disastrous polls on monday and tuesday. for mine, i'm not a huge Rudd fan but i'll certainly be glad to see the back of Gillard as imo she has been the most divisive PM in living memory promoting a class warfare and continually playing the gender card...well it's came back to bite her on her enormous ar$e as now she's universally hated by all as current polls indicate both males and females disapprove of her performance as PM.

Seems the Prime Minister is a train wreck determined to do everything to get her own way before she gets slaughtered at the polling booth.

Johnno so good of you to selectively choose quotes to suit your purpose and ignore those which don't. What is your view regarding the comments by Nicola Roxon?

Also, how do you, BC and Bazza reconcile Judi Moylan's comments vis a vis "asylum seekers' treatment"?

Perhaps I should point out that Abbott won his ballot by 1 vote. That is, virtually half of the Liberal members did not want him to be leader.

It is also salient to note that Julie Bishop was deputy leader under Brendan Nelson. When Malcolm Turnbull was made leader she was deputy to him. Then when Tony Abbott was made leader she was deputy leader under him. This begs the question: in the leadership ballots did she support her current leader or the person opposing the leader? Did she show loyalty to any of those leaders? If she did how could she stay as deputy leader under the person whom she didn't vote for?

i dont favour either party, never have.

but the extent of this labor circus is something i have never ever seen. i wonder if anyone is running the country as they go back & forth trying to find ways of winning an election. it seems its all about winning an election instead of doing their bloody job. it is insane.

did anyone see that muslim cleric the other night on tv? he pointed to the australian flag on top of parliament house and stated... our flag will replace this in 15 years.

our weak as water "leaders" are leaving our grandchildren one hell of a mess to clean up. all political correctness aside, labor seem hell bent on being totally naive to this build up. the french government have shown the way by ignoring do-gooders and taking action. embrace their values, or get deported. we are leaving things too late and it will bite us badly. bet your life on it. kevin rudd is not the answer. that fellow is as false as my teeth.
