About a week ago I was watching morning news on the telly and they were saying Adelaide was finally catching up with “the rest of the country” when it comes to opening hours on Sunday, bringing forward the opening hours from 11am to 9am. Well WA mustn’t be part of Australia in the eyes of the eastern states media. Here I am sitting outside Supercheap waiting for them to open at 11am so I can buy a new car battery.

We need a visionary Premier like Barnett who opened up the rest of Perth to Sunday trading when only jurisdictions deemed tourist areas were allowed to open on Sunday’s.

It’s 10.54am and 7 people are queued up outside Supercheap Midland and myself and a few others sitting in our car waiting for the doors to open. Absolute joke, just like our esteemed Premier.
Get on your bike.

So the people working in retail or these stores aren’t allowed a morning off.

Rather than changing the trading hours how about they ban anyone from the shops on a weekend that is unemployed, retired, not working or holds a pension card.
That process would make the shops busier during the week, and allow space at the shops on weekends for people that can't get their midweek

You are writing this with your tongue firmly planted in your cheek ph?

correct me if I’m wrong, but I remember something about allowing small traders to open early to give them a small edge over supermarkets.  Good idea For the small shop owner I think.

Up to the shop owners what they want to do but they should have the flexibility to do what suits them. Allow 7-7 Sunday and the shop owner choose what they want to do as to what will generate the most income for them.

There is no argument to support letting one area have the day off. Mining, nurses, police, fire and the list goes on all work 24X7 365. In NSW I can go to Woolies at 2am and its open. Their choice what they do and if I don't like those hours I pick a job that suits what I want and don't work in retail if I don't want to work Sunday.

58 Shark - no mate I am deadly serious, the people that don't work have an opportunity to go to the shops any time they like Monday to Friday. Weekend trading should only be for people that can't get there during the week.

There is nothing worse than having to duck to the shops on a weekend and getting stuck in queues behind people that don't need to be there and could go any time they like during the week.

Just my opinion

I've got a 24/7 Supermarket up the road from me on Striling Hwy and a 24/7 Servo and mini mart end of the street, never had in the inclination to go there at 3am..

I’ll always respect your right to have an opinion, so we’ll have to agree to disagree.  I don’t think the shop owners would agree with your view either.
