Just read former SA umpire Rudi Koertzen died yesterday in a car crash in SA.....aged 73. Always remember Rudi and his slow finger raise when delivering the dreaded news to the ever waiting batsman.....another figure gone, who most of us can probably relate to,  in our younger years of watching test cricket.....seemed like a fella who was well respected by all on the international test circuit. 

Yes Freezin, the news filtered through yesterday. Sad to hear he died resulting from motor vehicle accident.

Rudi appeared to be a real character and respected by the players. As you said the slow finger was his speciality. RIP

Sad news as Rudi was one umpire I really admired, in the same class as Dicky Bird, David Shepherd, Simon Taufel, Tony Crafter, Dick French, Peter McConnell etc and some of the current English umpires like Illingworth, Willey,Kettleborough, Gough....Erasmus from SA plus Reiffel & Tucker from home.
The slow hand of death when he gave you out was his only show of any flair, but he got almost all of his decisions correct and almost all of the players seemed to really admire him.
