I see the average wage for an AFLW player will be around $40k for a 10 week plus finals season later this year.   Not bad money for a standard approaching under 14s.

If you want the standard to increase have to make it worth their time i guess.

However i dont see a time when the men's comp wont be propping up the women's financially. Surely they need to draw a line in the sand eventually, it cant be a permanent drain.

just imagine the same sort of investment in state league footy to sustain the game itself

Whats the average AFL players contract? My guess when you include the top end $million+ contracts down to the new draftees, it must be around $250k for a 22 game season, that's approx $11,360/game, as against $4k/game for the women.

If the women's game is to make the improvements in performance they desperately need, they need to be fulltime and $40k is just enough to get by on, so I don't have too much of a problem with it as long as we start to see that improvement pretty quickly.

Sadly all levels of footy are beholden to the AFL empire, that's where all the money, TV rights and sponsorship is concentrated.

Yep...agreed which is why I posted it in the first place Southy.  Apparently, there'll be 18 teams this year with I'd say around 30 on each list with an average salary of $40k which by my calculation represents over $21m in player payments alone.  Imagine that divided up between the major state leagues.
