Were you around during the Packer cricket revolution Mark? I was and watched it unfold with all it's gimmicks - it was a hit. With all the dissatisfaction that is happening in the Aussie Rules world you better believe that there will be a Gina out there within 10 or so yrs. They will be counting the dollars to be made via a breakaway comp.

Make no mistake it's easily on the cards. What happens when 6 big clubs , Collingwood essendon hawthorn and Carlton the eagles and the crows a walk into the afl house and say , were pulling the pin on you mob , we have a better offer you better it or were out, they would have the afl over a barrel , the afl would be left with a bunch of busted arse in solvent clubs in Victoria , a few interstate duds that make no money and get no crowds , the afl would be bust and bust quick...

It wouldn't take long before a few others were knocking at the door to join the break away. Free of salary caps, free movement of players no middle man dictating terms ....

wont have to worry about that mate, the GWS exeperiment will send them broke, I can see a break away league forming , just like it did with the EPL, Pay TV will set up its own league, tell the clubs they can piss off the salary cap and all the other rules and all the cashed up super clubs will go over quick smart. I reckon about 8 clubs would do it for a naional suuper league,

I think you are both onto something. the afl has 4 teams too many.

GWS and Footscray
Melbourne and Carlton
Piss St Kilda off (their players can go to Port though) Port to change their nick name and colours to make them more palatable to SA supporters.

All clubs to have their own reserve side playing in the AFL.

Yeah spot on although you would have buckleys chance of Carlton merging, way too powerful , as for the rest they are financial lemons, way to many weak links perhaps around 6 clubs are unsustainable beyond cash handouts.
