Spinks was not allocated to us. He was delisted by the Eagles and decided to play for us instead of SF. Maybe Souths were aligned with Fremantle at the time. We then lost him in the draft to Geelong.

Forgot about Andrew Shipp, he was very good.

No that’s not correct. Spinks was still on the WCE list in 1997. They moved him from SF to us because they wanted him to be playing at CHF. I remember hoping every week that he would not get picked by WCE. As the season went on he seemed to fall out of favour with Malthouse and his outstanding form with Perth was ignored. He moved to Geelong in ‘98.

Ok fair enough. Staggering WC didn’t reward his WAFL form.

From memory Spinks had a good year at Geelong in 98 too, winning their goal kicking award .....though got injured soon after and that was the end of him....did he ever return to the WAFL?

Spinks signed with Peel after being cut by Geelong but continued to be plagued by injury. I'm not sure if he even played a league game with Peel.

Anyway Spinks doesn't qualify under this topic. It was about interstate draftees allocated to WAFL clubs.
