If the shit stirrers are only interested in changing the date and not hiding behind other motives, why don't any of them suggest an alternative date!
Personally, a date in late April would suffice.

Good call Blunder. I don't think anyone genuinely cares whether it's Jan 26 or some other date except those who resist change for the sake of it. Change the date and let's all move on as having this conversation every year is getting boring.

I see that Cricket Australia have wilted to the PC brigade and removed "Australia Day" from their Big bash promotions on the day. Maybe it's a way of distracting away from the piss weak performance by their test team, who knows. ScoMo is spot on when he suggests that CA should concentrate on managing cricket and not get involved in politics.

If you dont like Australia Day, dont bloody celebrate it or recognise it, but the majority do like to celebrate it so should be allowed to in a so called free country, not be made to feel guilty by the loud self important minorities who always seem to think they own the moral high ground.

Maybe CA is part of the PC brigade - how dare they express an opinion that differs from Slomo's or anyone else for that matter. Must think they have the right to freedom of thought or speech.

Nobody takes exception to the day itself or the reason behind celebrating Australia Day. It's the date on which it is held that's the problem. To some 26 January 1788 doesn't particularly conjure up cause for celebration and whilst I have no opinion one way or the other, I can see where indigenous people might take exception. Given they were here before we were, let's move the day and stop the PC grizzling about this issue once and for all so they can start on something else.

Totally agree BC, the day is a celebration of everything about our country, including our awesome landscape of beaches, rivers, forests and deserts, stuff that was here a long time before the poms sailed ashore. Change the date I reckon.

No way, no change. Like it or not, that is the birth of OUR country. Never heard any problems till the minority hunted around for something else to whinge about. What’s next, change someone’s birthday because it’s on a “sensitive” day?

Hmmmm????...birth of our country????....maybe as we know it but I could've sworn that others were here for around 40,000 years before the first fleet arrived 58.....they also had their own culture, set of beliefs, governing principles or laws within their groups...maybe not as sophisticated or documented as the Poms but they had them nonetheless. So 58, you're saying we should completely ignore the fact these people even existed?

Ok, I worded it badly. It is the birth of (for the want of a better description) Australia’s renaissance in a way. If the Poms came in all guns blazing and spilling blood I would agree. But the first people were not invaded. I know you keep up with what is happening, so it’s patently obvious we recognize these people, Ayers Rock just on a long list.
