Senior Seagull wrote: Grump, by all accounts Lachie is a pretty level headed lad and if not rookie listed will likely play league for us in 21 where he can have another chance to show his wares, if he can be consistently good in a team like Subi, then he will attract some more attention. Needs to look to the example set by Matty Priddis, overlooked again and again, won a Sandover and went on to be a winner and runner up in the Brownlow.

I think Clarke is also a good example to others, it is a bit of a wait and see but hopefully Dads and more so mums get behind them!

As the Perth boys pointed out, winning the Jack Clarke Medal means fark all....saying that English did go to the best team in the land, with a few A graders ahead of him...I reckon not having an U/18 carnival probably went against the likes of Vanirsen....As the Perth boys also said mid size midfielders are dime a dozen...you either have to be Fyfe or Cripps size or possess the upside to be like them....did Vanirsen dominate last year as an under ager?...if not then perhaps his upside on and off the park is limited in the eyes of the AFL recruiter..can see the kid being another Nelson or Black, who dominate state league footy without getting an AFL gig for some unknown reason....yet some guys like Bailey Banfield, Roarke Smith etc keep getting contracts despite numerous opportunities at the elite level for limited success.

Years ago, a mate of mine played footy with Chris Mainwaring. He reckoned that he was good, but nothing outstanding. Look at his career! Heady and Kemp went at picks 90 and 120 odds. Talent scouts obviously have the nous to see something in or lacking in a player.

Has Sumich offered an apology yet for his media stupidity? Offering his opinion to recruiters is one thing but putting it out there in the media for all to see is rather silly is it not. I would have thought the state coach should be measured in his media offerings, even if he has left the position once the $$$ dried up like the Sahara. Won’t be the last time he puts that 500 goal left foot in his mouth. His explanation was worse than the initial comment. What a silly laddie.

Sorry I havent been following the story. I assume it was the comment about Zane Trew being an alleged "sook" is that correct? If so did Sumich make that statement to the media as well as the recruiters or did someone other than Sumich leak his original comment to the media?

freezin; just to illustrate your point further, little johhnny benngough won the colts medal in 80, but never really made the league side regularly. He was another Armstrong played very young, whom got injurred a bit, similar to other youngsters in his side.
It is a good day for wa and subi, so few being drafted. The WA-FL will be stronger, and, to be honest, if they are any good at league football, clubs will draft them in the future.

SEN quoted him in an interview with Gerard Whately who quoted him on the Twitter.

Ark the likes of Nelson and Black are good league footballers mate, yet surprisingly both never got shoulder tapped for the elite level...think Vanirsen sadly might be the same....

Freezin, yep, agree with you 100 per cent, mate
Three more whom come immediately to mind whom never played, or not much are;

young
simister
ambrose

priddis -- was picked up very late

as you know, freezin, there would be many more

I agree with every word shark 58 wrote as well, freezin. How could you doubt Heady? The riddle with him would have been 'could he play key forward position', not that he might be unable to play league football. Thankfully, the Eagles managed to work it out.
