Super glad I chose to buy a ticket to tonight’s AFL blockbuster between the Pies and Cats at Optus Stadium to see a great contest between some of the best players in the game in the last 10 years. Pendlebury, Ablett, Dangerfield are absolute super stars. Selwood unfortunately went out midway through the first quarter with a tight hammy.

But to see two of the biggest Victorian clubs go head to head here in the west was a real unique experience and one I really enjoyed being a neutral. And both sides seemed to have an army of supporters, Collingwood supporters in good numbers behind the railway end and Geelong supporters on the Casino wing. It really did feel like a VFL crowd.

DeGoey was brilliant, Gazza showed glimpses of his absolute brilliance, Pendlebury was silk. Hoskin-Elliot took as absolutely screamer in the last qtr I think it was.

Collingwood are so disciplined and set up very well. The only thing I think they’re missing is a key forward but then Richmond showed you can win one without a big key forward a few years ago.

Bit piss weak that some decided not to go because they might get wet. Light rain for about 10 minutes just after half time and about 5 minutes late in the last. Apart from that perfect weather. Official crowd was just over 22,000 which was disappointing although it looked like half full and there was a great atmosphere.

Oh, and forgot to mention, some peanut took his shirt off and decided he wanted 30 seconds of fame and ran onto the ground in the last qtr. Security was onto him pretty quick and shortly after they put on the big screens that anyone who enters the playing arena faces a fine up to $50,000. What a PEANUT!!

The whole stupid thing making a complete mockery and farce of our hard closed state border. And wonder if anyone there asked the obvious question. Doesn't sound like it.
On the other side of the fence, there are WA residents unable to return because they don't qualify for exemptions - apparently?
And not surprisingly, the police commissioner is unable to answer questions because he is ""too busy"".

To be honest I thought the game as a spectacle was pretty ordinary which I might add, wasn't helped by some one sided umpiring which saw 22 frees kicks to 10 go Collingwood's way. 13 goals in total certainly indicated it wasn't a show case....but I guess any footy is better than no footy.

The real farce is that the VFL players were under far stricter restrictions than the rest of the population of Victoria and the consequence of that is plain to see. That is the reason for their exemption, testing on a daily basis, strict isolation and so on from the AFL a standard that none of which the folk who want to run home can meet!

The danger will be from the Vic numpties who have found ways to avoid the restrictions not the footballers or the WA folk!
We live in a time where intelligent people are being silenced so stupid people won't be offended

Unfortunately Grump the scary part is there are about 6 million of the highlighted above...many of whom have made there way here to the West in the last couple of weeks alone...but alas the only one who has been highlighted here by Freeze (many times over I might add) was the Lowdon fella who didnt even set foot on WA soil...meanwhile literally thousands of others are walking amongst us daily that have only been in WA for a few weeks straight from Covid City!
I wouldnt be one bit surprised if many of those were at the game last night watching the 2 CoVic sides!
Hopefully they give the place a thorough scrub from head to toe before WA resident fans attend Sundays Derby.

Yes fairly one sided ordinary game, turned off in the second quarter, noticed that only every second row was occupied which was something in the way of Covic protection.

Listening to the TV commentary it sounded like they were at the game rather than doing it from screens back in Covic. I know Bazz was boundary riding which is ok but if the Vic commentators did get over here I'd want to know how they did it, did they iso for 14 days etc. Surely there are enough capable WA commentators who could do the job live at the venue. I heard Commetti was there to do a halftime interview with Bazz so he would be the obvious choice to do a one of job for a one off game.

Anyway real footy starts tomorrow.

Didn’t watch the game but Bruce is commentating from SA and others from Victoria.
Don’t stress yourself

SS Brian Taylor & Jobe Watson were commentating from the CoVic Ch7 bunker whilst Bruce McAvaney was commentating from SA, that has been the case all season so far.
Big nose was at the ground as boundary rider.
God knows why they just didnt get the best in the business in Dennis Cometti to commentate the WA games from the Perth Stadium commentary box?!?!

Wow Wee Boy Oh Boy as BT would say. Speaking of Numpties, this topic wasn't meant to be another Covid-19 discussion so off you trott to the 15 other topics on that subject.

BC when you get two evenly matched teams of high end talent playing on a wet night what else do you expect? Were you there?

I found it a highly entertaining game and the crowd was always engaged. When you take into account the conditions these players are having to endure with highly restricted freedoms and not having the training facilities they are used to I take my hat off to them.

I think it's time some people got over their own selfish interests, trade their single vision lenses in for a pair of multi focals and just embrace the game at ALL levels.

I thought you said there were only light showers on 2 occasions and apart from that perfect weather. I was commenting on the fact it wasn't a great spectacle for television viewing and accept the atmosphere at the game would have been great. As for restricted freedoms and training facilities, these guys are highly paid professional athletes who should be able to adapt to such things.
