On 7Mate now. Gee I miss that STO jumper. Shits all over the Black Swan IMO. Pretty sure this is the game where Bomber Peake kicks 7 from FF.

Went to that game. Being a Sharks supporter, I was over the moon. I taped it on an a VHS tape. I think that was the game where Spud Slater came out with the saying “inch perfect”, a bit before the “Den’s” time.

Perhaps Hardie was recognised for setting up a lot of those attacking moves Bomber benefited from? Still you gotta be pretty special boot 7 in a state of origin game.

You know what makes me sick watching that game? They say today’s game is much quicker. I say that’s bullshit. In that game you see players getting on with it much more quickly with less delays, less umpire involvement and the game wasn’t held up by that stupid 10 metre rule that results in a 50m penalty. Yes there were times when opposition players ran past within 10 metres, probably 5 metres but it didn’t stop the player with the ball getting his kick away. And players looked straight up the ground , they didn’t stop, look around 360 degrees and look confused and kick it backwards.

How was the synergy between Rioli, Narkle and Mitchell. One of the greatest games of all time, that grandstand must have nearly collapsed when Bucky kicked that last goal. And Blackwell’s smother, just epic stuff. COP THAT

Was at all of the WA vs VIC S.O.O games in the 1980s and to this day there has never been a better standard than that era of games.
The games were quick, skilful, high scoring, tough, rugged...the full house crowd (on a Tuesday arvo I might add) baying for VIC blood...they had it all and despite what those in todays media keep trying to tell everyone that footy has never been better than current (only because their livelihood depends on it) that era of football was the best!
From this particular instalment I remember Peake & Buckenara kicking goals aplenty, Mitchell, Narkle, Rioli & co carving up the VICs with sheer pace through the middle and particularly MacNish's screamer sitting on a pack at the city end in the last qtr.
Why on earth did they let them disappear...did the VICs get sick of losing?

Brilliant game one of the best of all time without a doubt and the last true & pure state of origin fefore the Weags started in '87. Was at the game with 40k others, awesome atmosphere and that last quarter was amazing, big Vic fightback then WA had the skill and determination to hit back twice and then Bucky's goal and Blackwells famous smother sealed it. The list of names is a who's who of WA footy, Peake was brilliant and should have won the Simpson, as was Bucky, Lestersmith was doing what he liked across halfback and the speed by foot and hand of Mitchell, Narkle and the sublime Rioli was something to behold. Big Keeney did a great job in the ruck against a certified ruck legend in Madden who was taken out by Miles with a huge shitmixer at a critical time.

Sadly we will never see the likes of it again.

As opposed to Madden's 7 possessions and 36 hitouts. Keene won 25 hitouts during the game.

Can’t agree more. Most exciting, stirring footy ever. What an atmosphere watching Roo Boucher taking the Vics on with the whole stadium chanting “roo, roo, roo”. Another great win by a few points.
