Up here in northern Thailand (it hasn't been Siam for a number of years now) we also have numerous cases of CV19 - including at least 1 (a Yank) in our town.

Everyone (locals and expats) seem to be coping rationally and relatively calmly - without extreme outbursts of hysteria against those people in the next province, or the one after that.

There are plenty of laws in Oz to deal with idiots and social misfits who choose (for whatever reason) to act like fuckwits in exposing others to danger by coughing, spitting etc in their direction.

The extreme measures to deal with terrorism introduced over the past decade or so have no place in such a scenario.

It has been quite disturbing to walk through the CBD and see people still sitting and walking very closely together. Some people just think it will never happen to them and maybe it won't but their actions could still have a massive impact on a older or disabled person. Maybe it needs a scare campaign like the 'Grim Reaper' AIDS advertisements of the 1980s which were pretty confronting and effective.

I have been thinking recently, mike - was it a mistake to announce so widely and prominantly that the major impact of CV19 was on us senior citizens, and statistically, had relatively little impact on the under 40/50s?

If you look at the photos of those ignoring the "distancing" recommendations (are they laws?), they all seem to be in the younger "I am bulletproof" cohort. Most likely without considering the potential pass-on effect of their ignorance/arrogance.
