FMD did anyone just see the pack of hounds interviewing the minister for government services Stuart Robert? They (the media) must have the attention span of a 2 year old.

He was superb without a word of spin he couldn't have explained it any clearer the problems they have been and are facing and the measures they have put in place to service the extra demand and are working to expand it further.

Then over the next 5 minutes or so he spent putting up with morons asking questions he's already answered and had to answer "as I've already said, explained, answered....." before he'd had enough and calmly pulled the plug on these dipsticks.

Well done Centrelink you don't hear those words too often but they have stepped up to make it much easier for people to get online and register their intent to claim so once they have lodged the required documents their payments will be backdated to today, or whenever they lodge their intent to claim.

They suffer from cyber attacks from scum bags almost on a daily basis so while they are trying to increase capacity they have to deal with that bullshit at the same time.

The Govt has gone big on Newstart recipients with increases of $500/fortnight for the unemployed. Thats great but what happens for people who are small contractors or sole traders, who work pharking hard to make a living and pay taxes, we get bugger all and get told to dip into our also hard earned super!! I know and am prepared to make the necessary sacrifices but what sacrifice are those welfare recipients on a guarenteed fixed income making? I'm not talking about the poor hard working punters that the virus has put out of work, but the long tern unemployed who's situation, money wise hasn't changes from before to after the virus, only change is they wont have to go out and apply for the minimum number of jobs to qualify each week. Being self employed in the building industry which has been ratshit for 4 or 5 years, I now have little or no savings safety net to fall back on, how long would i have to wait if i apply for newstart or would they even let me apply. Some very big gaps in the system that need to be addressed quicksmart.

The precious little darlings had to write a negative headline about it. Pathetic.

You would probably have to tune in to ABC or Sky News to see a replay of that interview. I thought he was excellent.

yes thats good but does not address small contractors and sole traders. there's a different view of "losing your job" and your business shutting down.

From today's Guardian, Senior - maybe you should dig deeper to see what may be available.

From 27 April, sole traders and the self-employed will also be able to receive JobSeeker payment while continuing to operate their business.

Senior, you are entitled to something, Maybe spend a bit of time on the My Gov website, or download the Centrelink app and ask the question?

Maybe an assets test might preclude some from qualifying.

It’s interesting, I’ve heard some ( a senior citizen in actual fact) who has campaigned for our government to make social welfare for everyone. Everyone gets it but those that don’t necessarily need it will most likely donate it anyway. That would dispel the age old argument of why should I work my arse off so some dole bludger can do fuck all and go down the beach for a surf every day?

Yes it would be very expensive BUT everyone has more to spend so what goes out eventually comes back in in some way or another. I think some European country does it. Might be Norway something like that.

Thanks JS, I have been trying to follow every bit of news but missed this one, will certainly have a look. I've emailed my local member Mia Davies and will look forward to her reply.
