Disgraceful event & made worse after Shuey threw a punch & missed the Grand Final. Palmer will miss the racing but should be dumped from the league. Not a role model

Another mighty fine judgement call
A prominent figure from another WAFL club I regard as a friend used the words “effen idiots” when I broke the news to him swans had secured Palmers signature for 2018. I do not know the circumstances that led to this moronic behaviour but one might say they don’t appear to be out of character

So Palmer has posted the following on social media and has denied that the shoe was thrown deliberately
In part he wrote:

“Firstly, let me be clear, no shoe was deliberately thrown at a horse during any race, & I have the utmost respect for the racing community and all those involved,” the post read.

“It was simply unfortunate timing.

“I was having a light hearted wrestle with a young teammate, oblivious to what was happening around us.

“What transpired was a shoe being thrown which unbeknown to us was unfortunately at the same time the horses had made their way around the course.”
Palmer apologised to the owners, trainers and drivers involved, as well as his football club, and said security footage would support his version of events.

He rounded his response off with a pledge to donate to the Off The Track program that rehomes retired racehorses.
Not sure if this changes an awful lot about the incident to be honest. The potential consequences could have been disasterous whether or not the shoe was thrown deliberately.
As a sidelight apparently one of the horses in the race was part owned by the Swans coach.

Mike sadly it probably highlights he's got a screw loose. So he says we didn't know the horses were coming around and didn't deliberately try to hit a horse. So does he think it would have been ok if a couple of shoes were sitting in the middle of the track that horses could have slipped on and busted a leg and brought the field down? And we know what happens to horses that break down with broken legs on a race track.

I think you may find that Palmer did not throw the shoe that is in the vision.

Apparently his condition has stabilised but it sounds like he is not in great shape as the statement said that he had to have emergency surgery. The passenger got away without too much damage thankfully. Thoughts are with Rhys and his family.
