Would all the black and whites on here be good enough to rank the following ruckman:

Keith Slater
Ron Boucher
Alan Sidebottom
Peter Sartori
Mick Johns
Jason Ball
Travis Edmunds
Nick Nat

That is a good list of names among that lot. Have I forgotten anybody?

Never saw Slater play but that order seems about right to me apart from Edmonds ahead of Ball and Johns. But a great list for sure! Slater, Boucher and Edmonds SD Hall of Famers

Beneath the Southern cross i stand, on Bassendean Oval, can in hand, Swan Districts, you Farkin Beauty!

Great list there AR certainly all would be in our best ruckmen of all time.
Honourable mentions to Cyril Litterick, Beau McDonald & Ron Skender.

Not doubting number 1's selection, but it's interesting that Spud's reputation propels him to the top despite few having seen him play. Litterick was better than most on the list drafted, but give a few more years and Nathan Blakely will be up there. Intelligent on and off the field.

Good topic ArkRoyal.

I’m surprised Bob Beecroft was not mentioned. Bob Beecroft was a very good ruckman, playing over a hundred games for Swans. Beecroft played state football and was selected as an all Australian player in 1972, as a ruckman.
He became a full forward when went to Fitzroy and Woodville, but as a ruckman at Swans, he should be in the best list.

SH: thanks a lot.
Jimmy -- thanks for mentionning Beecroft, I was unaware of him

From that list it would be out of Sartori and Sidebottom and I would plump for the latter.

Nick Nat is a good tap ruckman, but he just does not get enough possessions for my liking. Also, as people have said on various threads over the years in relation to ruckman, we need to consider rule changes. Under the old rules, shorter ruckmen would simply leap from the side, jumpping into the thighs of taller ruckmen, such as Nick, until he was unable to leap anymore at the contest.

Nic Nat is the best palmer of the ball from ruck contests I have EVER seen in my 40 years.
JTT his Swans days were just before my time but I didnt realise Big Bob Beecroft rucked for us I just assumed he played at CHF or FF like he did very successfully at Fitzroy & Woodville.
Gee we had some handy key forwards at our disposal at Basso in the mid 70s in the likes of Beecroft, Sidebottom, George & Olsen.

BH: they will make the finals because of him, his tapping and his physical presence, a presence which is notable and match winning at times.

Craig Hoyer

Was a very good shot for goal as well & if I remember correctly bagged 50+ goals in one particular season , went to Hawthorn who promptly ruined a promising career
