Treleven might of come from SD zone of Esperance BH, but pretty sure he never played for SD  ....that's like me saying Roger Hayden and Harry O'Brien are more EF products to play AFL because they came from EF zone ;) .....might as well say Jeremy Wasley was another EF product that did well at SD and won a Sandover medal then BH....how he won that Sandover, still is a mystery to me to this very day.....33/1 from memory.......

as for EF having a strong side in that era of SD BH?.....naaagh mate the 80/81/82 years were the worst in EFFC history pre AFL mate.....83 was a smidgen better, 84 yeah but only young, after that SD were heading south (85) and deep deep south in 86 before WCE ruined the party in 87....

Incorrect Frosty ol mate Craig Treleven played Colts & Reserves footy at SD in 1987-88!

EF spent most of this period down near a club I won't mention for most of the era, as Freeze has pointed out with aplomb. WP and EP had ability, but not enough to really threaten the others. Interestingly, in 1980, WP failled to make the finals, but had they won all the games which they lost by less than a goal, the club would have made second spot.

Spot on arkroyal, people often say ( disrespctally towards us ) that south kicked themselves out of that 81 grand final. Watch the tape and they have a lot shots at goal from well outside fifty and from tight angles everywhere.

TOO the 1981 season was the best and most exciting footy season I can remember and we didnt even win the flag that year
The calibre of players in the WAFL at that time was unsurpassed with the likes of Rioli, Krakouer Brothers, Peake, Buckenara, Beasley, Sewell et al at their peak before embarking on the VFL in 82.
That Claremont side in 81 was absolutely scintillating to watch as were my beloved SD and SF with scoring power unforeseen before and the rivalry and clashes between the 3 teams took WAFL footy to another level imho!

Yep, with the three ruckmen being the key there. The sheer athletic brilliance, skill, and toughness of Michael, the nous, endurance and composure of Moss, and the .... Well, maybe I'll let you have the pleasure of commenting on big Ron, BH!
I was just a little fella on the salt and vinegar samboys and tarino in those days but the old man used to tell me one of the funniest comments he heard at the footy was a Claremont granny jumping out of her seat and spitting with venom " GET BACK IN YOUR CAGE BOUCHER!"

Correct mate, he played under Micale at SD, then went home because in his own words he said to me "was a mummys boy, and hated the city" he is a ripper bloke and still loves the WAFL

Those Swans teams were the best footy teams I have seen in my time watching WAFL footy pre- Eagles, they were a perfect balance of skill and brawn with the big mean enforcers that teams of that era needed to win flags, 80-81 Souths teams a very close second.

No way SS you traitor ;) the 86 Subi side would've walked through them! I mean for a start who would have been able to stop the big Loza/Scotty ruck combo??

And who exactly would of been able to stop Hutton, Holmes, The Narkles, Donny Langsford, Tony Solin etc etc then?? Subi of 86 would not have got within a bulls roar! Big Ron would have sorted out Handbag Laurie and Phil Scott- a battler TBH -in a hurry

Feathers, Dwayne Lamb, Zanotti, Taylors, McNish, Dargie, Crutchfield, Clint Brown, Deano, Breman, Sellsy noooo chance SD...probably the best forward line even better than the tiges 81 forward line imo. Pfffft roo the midget, he would be an inside mid these days! Yeah a cheap shot would be his only hope

To get back to the topic of the scoreboard we, Swans' members, have received an update that the old scoreboard will be replaced by a similar manual scoreboard built the same company that built our can bar - from Tom Bottrell:

Scoreboard Upgrade; There have been a number of calls from members concerned that we are replacing the old scoreboard with a new digital one. That is not the case, however, the Town of Bassendean has had to recently condemn the old scoreboard due to safety concerns and it will be replaced with a similar looking traditional one. The Scoreboard was not Heritage Listed, though our input was a strong preference for a manual one similar to what was in place. A benefit from this is that club sponsors Eden Fabrication were awarded the tender from the Town of Bassendean to rebuild the scoreboard. Eden Fabrication designed and built the large swan can bar alongside the scoreboard so the job is in good hands. Rest assured you will still see Jim Dougan up on the manual scoreboard every home game in any weather!
