Unfortunately the sad fact is American sports are fast infiltrating the local sporting landscape. I have a few mates who are sadly more interested in American basketball, grid iron, ice hockey, baseball et al than our very own WAFL footy. Me personally I would rather watch FART train at Rushton then watch feckin American crap!
As Swandog has alluded too the club are obviously trying to win over the younger generation with an American stylised design on some of the merchandise but I would highly doubt we would give up our beloved symbol The Fighting Swan!

The Americanisation that I can't stand is the name changing of "divisions" to "conferences."

To me, a "conference" is a talk or discussion between 2 or more people.

No one is being a pom here... Hey I just noticed SwanDog, wasn't your idea was it?

San Diego has used the logo since 1969, so is nothing new. The use by Swans appears to me an attempt to copy the Fremantle logo.

In the united states, and within baseball particularly they have always been good at retaining their historical logo, for example th New York Yankee's with their distinctive NY, or Boston with their "B".

Australian Rules is a unique game, market it as such. Would be great to have the WAFL control merchandise a little, to ensure the marketing is all similar between the clubs, and the use of the WAFL logo would be beneficial.

Its all about professionalisim.

Oh so we are trying to look like Freo now too? So which is it Freo or San diego? And having universal logos like the 80's would be great but in these G7 times each club to their own it seems. And like BH said our fighting swan logo wont be gone this is just a smart marketing attempt. We will see how successful in time

Okay the club has chosen to go with a new logo.

I only have two concerns with it.

Firstly were the paid members of the club given the opportunity to have their say on any logo changes for the club.

Secondly I hope the club can confirm that there will be no legal ramifications with using a logo that is the same as an American professional sporting organisation.

We had got ourselves back into a healthy financial position I don't want that disappearing quickly because we are forced to fork out for legal costs.

It is only for marketing these new products from what I have been told, the club will continue to market the traditional logo as well, I reckon it is great! Spread our wings!

The black swan in the oval shape is a great logo and well recognised.
