I'm not sure I follow DG. Simmo wanted to come to East Perth after finishing his AFL career in 2000 crossed to EP in 2001. Buzsan turned down offers from all over Australia after his AFL Career which was one year on a rookie list zero games. Woodville offered him $ 25000 from memory but he stayed. We won that grand final by ten goals with the hand brake on. Once again is it illegal to recruit players from other clubs, if so Subiaco's flag is null and void because there was plenty of them.

LB Turnabull som of Swans' legend John Turnbull; started at Claremont then came to East Perth because of the host club alignment. QED. Be o' with ye and ne'er to return.

LMFAO. Oh dear another 42 classic. He won East Perth's fairest & best in 91,93 & 99.

I'm assuming you've got your own chooks.

Was 2002 the season after the unfortunate loss of the young EP player in Bali during the players end of season trip (my apologies for not recalling his name, no disrespect intended)?

My dancing days are over DG. 1996 Grand Final and end of season trip to Bali was when that happened it drove many of his team mates for the rest of their careers, always having his name or number written on there wrists.

Correct. Turn bull was an 89 premiership player with us and was then drafted by eagles and went to East Perth probably in 91 I think because nee sham was at war with the eagles and malt house and was was playing players like him in the reserves, mark Hepburn and tony begovich were in a similar situation from memory. Malaxos went to East Fremantle for the same reason.

Thanks for reply there Larry. The fact that I couldn't remember the young blokes name is quite disturbing, alzheimer's approaching fast. He was my generation and like I said no disrespect intended to Jeremy, his or the EP family. What I do remember is EP players rallying together and having that period of success in the early 2000's with just about all dedicating the wins in his memory. IMO whilst their was a form of alignment back in this period it was nothing like the current structure which is unfair on so many levels. I for one won't begrudge the EP premierships back in this period because at least AFL players not selected had a right to play back at the WAFL club they were recruited from when not selected for WCE or Freo.

Premierships need to be shared (whilst earned) amongst all WAFL clubs if supporters and the comp is going to survive for future generations. How much better the comp would be if Perth could become strong again and revive the faith in their hardcore & very vocal supporter group is highly underestimated. A bit of success out their way would not hurt this comp one bit. Likewise, if teams aligned with AFL clubs become dominant consider the WAFL comp dead. Over to the WAFC.....would appreciate if u blokes there could stop sitting on ur hands and start trying to assist the local league fellas, yeah you know, the league which half you fellas used to play in before enslaving yourselves to the AFL monolith...also keeps the money in WA and not in "Canberra" (except for the GST factor of course.

Outstanding post couldn't agree more. Yes I didn't want to mention Jeremy's name as you know the type of people that frequent this website particularly the Swans and Perth threads. That era of players at EP was the toughest I have ever seen no doubt the alignment assisted EP on field but the culture change brought in by Tony Micale was the main turn around. His first training session was legendary he won the battle of wills against a wild bunch of lads. The current alignment is very different its only benefit is financial to the WAFL clubs in particular EP who will be set up for the future. The league has been uneven for 30 years with nothing much done so this alignment business has put another nail in the coffin.

Whats going to happen to EP when they pull the alignment and give it to the PFC???

Bronte will not continue to put his own money in and players not getting the opportunity to progress from Colts to Seniors in the next few years will have a massive effect on retention. Do you have 12-15 ready made league standard players ready when the WCE guys are pulled out. Guys like Wulff & Johnson will be long gone so will guys getting impatention not getting opportunities.
