On the back of a great win last Saturday we get the chance to continue our good early season form when tackle the Dogs at home. This is a very important game as we head into the Easter-Anzac day games which will be a challenge for our young and inexperienced squad.
The Dogs will be low on confidence so we must get off to a good start. Do that and we should get the win.
We go in without any change I'd say.

As I said on the other thread, Souths look really good on paper and its hard to believe that they haven't won a game yet. I have a feeling that they are going to hit this game hard and Swans need to be ready for them. Tim Geappan becomes a critical player for us tomorrow because he always seems to play well against Souths and you can bet your bottom dollar that Ricky Cary will get some special attention after his feats last week. The hot weather will also be a factor so fitness will come into it as well

Boy it was bloody hot at Bassendean today! When I arrived I saw Miller running around in the twos. WHY?????? For a fleeting moment I thought the league game had started early. He is one of South's best players, think Haselby shot himself in the foot there.

To be honest, it wasn't a great standard game today, both teams made so many skill errors. More turnovers than a Danish pastry shop if you'll excuse the pun! Swans managed one quarter that they won the ball, played direct football and put the Souths defence under pressure. This was the 3rd term and basically this 30 minutes won us the game.

South Freo got so much of the ball in the first quarter even into the breeze, they should have been around 4 goals up at Quarter time. So many scoring opportunities wasted. Swans could barely get their hands on the ball and were very lucky that the Doggies were so inaccurate. The second quarter was another arm wrestle but there were a few good passages of play from both teams and it was more interesting to watch.

Swans played some great footy to kick 6 in the 3rd quarter but kept Souths in the game by allowing them 3 goals which were all from poor kicks out of the backline by Swans players which were turned over. The Bulldogs still had a sniff at 3 quarter time but the heat took its toll on both teams in the final quarter and everyone was running up and down on the spot at the end.

For Swans I thought the whole defensive unit was outstanding. Ugle was great all day and was playing well when Swans weren't in the first quarter. Both Jetta's were prominent, young Brandon shows a lot of potential and Rodney kicked 6 in the ressies today too, so it may not be long before he gets a go in the league team.

All the usual suspects ( Ames, Simmo, Riggio, Notte, Davis) played their part. Geappan showed some real good signs today after a slow start to the season, but for me the moment of the match was when Ricky Cary cornered and caught Ashton Hams holding the ball after a botched kick out and then cooly slotted the goal. The last 3 weeks have been great to watch because they are playing as a team, which has not always been the case in the last few years.

As for Souths, the effort was definitely there and they had nearly 40 more possessions than Swans over the course of the match but their skill execution let them down, too many kicks and handballs missed their mark. Guys like Hams and Cook racked up the touches but they seemed to often get them in areas where they didn't do much damage to Swans. Schloithe was very good, he always seems to play well when I see him, I'm a little confused as to why the Dockers let him go really. Another Bulldogs player who caught my eye was number 8 - Timothy Kelly, he looks like he has got a lot of pace and agility.

Well done Swans, can't wait for the clash with Perth at Lathlain next week!

Great wrap up Mike you hit the nail on the head. At the end of the day happy just to get the 4 points in the stifling heat again!

Did more than shoot himself in the foot Mike - he's probably shot himself out the door now , you simply cannot drop your best skilled & performing players under vague reasoning to say the least

Doesn't take away the fact that your boys deserved the 4 points in any form

That's a great wrap Mike and covers all bases, We gave Cook far too much room today and he along with Hams are head and shoulders their best players and thankfully Miller didn't play today!!
Beneath the Southern cross i stand, on Bassendean Oval, can in hand, Swan Districts, you Farkin Beauty!

Also it was great to win in all 3 grades for the second week in a row especially our Colts side considering some of our best players are out at the moment not to mention 17yo's C.Blakely & Anderson are playing in our League side.
