G'day, just thought I would share a few sentences with the WAFL folk today.

Worked a day in Beechboro yesterday which coincided with watching some bowls at Bassendean Bowls Club at 6.30pm. Had an hour to kill in between so I decided to invest some of my hard earned into the SDFC and head inside the club to have a beer and meet some locals or have a snoop around. I like looking at other clubrooms etc.

Have never been inside there before. Although hot and a little stuffy inside I spent half an hour or so looking around the wooden floorboarded clubrooms viewing heaps about the 60's success and the 80's. Bunton and Todd seem to be the most popular and rightly so (don't forget where Toddy started though fellas =).

I found it to be quite a typical Bassendean kind of building, floorboards, balcony set up, lots of wooden cabinets and railings and the wooden stairs that eventually took me to the top bar there. Had more of a look around . . . . all by myself!!! Not one person was inside? Maybe I went on a bad day / bad time but there were bar staff setting up something in the main function area but not one person having a drink.

So I had a MIDDY of Carlton Dry . . . $5. I'm not that old and wasn't around in the days of ponies and 8oz glasses and $1 middies or whatever they were but seriously isn't $5 for a middy of beer at a local footy club a bit over the top . . . . . when your the only one there???

Anyway - I went out to the balcony and talked to myself for 15 mins - (great view by the way and could just imagine the noise up there and down below on those black and white chairs and undercover in the 80's when SD v SF. Would have been a passionate little area I reckon), and watched some of the SD women kick the ball around, finished my brew and walked out to head off to bowls where I was greeted with the same kind of wooden features, same kind of stuffiness, same number of bar staff but there were people inside this place and cold stubbies for $4.60.

Not sure what my point is but I enjoyed my little tour of the Midland area that afternoon.

Not sure why SDFC are in need of money though??
SFFC - WOOF WOOF

Welcome to the home of footy Doggie I hope you enjoyed it mate :)
Those SD vs SF games in the early 80's were something else both at Basso & Freo Ovals (who could ever forget the day of the Stephen Michael Express for T.I's 200th game were a special exclusive train with SF players, officials, supporters etc travelled from Fremantle Station to Bassendean Station I mean they wouldnt even have that nowadays for any of those so called WCE or Freo "stars") and I am glad I got to experience them as it was a 1000 times better than any Freo or WCE game in this day & age let me tell ya!
On the Swans financial front it has all of us who love the club and or are close to the club stumped how it could have been so badly mismanaged in such a short period of time but we just have to get on with the job of turning it around yet again so that we have this great club around for another 100 years or more

Cold cans from the can bar for $5 mate.

...and have you been up to The Arena for a match? They are charging nightclub prices for beer and about $2 for a snake lolly
