I have read the posts on this site over the past few days with a growing sense of disbelief that the club that I love and have been a member of for years may have not paid a number of players from 3 years ago??? I would have thought that the first priority of a club would to be ensure that the guys that put their bodies on the line for the club every week would be renumerated much quicker than this. If this was a workplace there would be redress for employees via legal action via the industrial relations system, why can't footballers do the same??

If all this is true, I can honestly say for the first time in my life, I am ashamed to be a Swans supporter. You can use the excuse that times are tough in the WAFL, but to my knowledge every other club appears to be able to pay its players and staff. Swans have obviously been paying a few people too much for a number of years and now the well has run dry. All the people who have put the club into this financial mess have slipped quietly out the back door. :(

Spot on Mike, and now there is a fire sale to get as many transfer fees as possible to cover these debts.

I am sorry that this has befallen a truly good club and group of supporters.

It was not so long ago that the support staff had not been paid, whilst not as important (grrh) as players they are often the hardest working people in a club, 3 games a saturday, 3 nights of training for not very much at all!

If there is a tin, like we had to have not that many years ago I will put some folding stuff in it!

Thanks for the comments Grump, I totally agree with your thoughts about support staff, if you didn't have them, you wouldn't have a game and if these people have continued to work without being paid, well that is a tribute to their commitment and dedication, but is also an indication of a club that has taken advantage of them. It seems to me that the current board has had to take the rap for decisions made by previous board members who seem to have quietly slipped out without being made to account for these decisions which have led to so many financial problems.

The one positive which might come out of this, if the club gets through it (and I'm sure they will) is that Swans may be more inclined to look at their Junior Development and develop their talent from within their zone rather than pay imported players unrealistic fees. Swans should look at the system Claremont have been operating successfully for years and see if we can learn from this.

It makes me sad to see the club in such a poor financial state but I will be signing up as a member again in 2014 because this is the time that a club needs its supporters to stick by it. I have always enjoyed watching the guys running around and they have provided me with so many happy memories, so I will gladly continue to support them. Hopefully though it won't get to the rattling tin stage like in the early 2000's

Twomey is training at Bassendean but wants more money
Robbo offered 7k and 1k a game at Sth Bunbury
Pullman wants to go to South if Lammie goes there though Lammie may stay in Bunbury.
Hams - likely to live in Busselton
no eastern states recruits - no $$
