I've had time to reflect and take in this news overnight and I also read the article in the West this morning and to me this decision by Andrew is as much about setting himself up after his career rather than being a specifically football decision. West Perth have offered him a job which is likely to lead to a career after he retires, this would certainly be more than Swans would be able to offer him in their current financial position. Also when he looked at the two clubs in the short term, he would have seen West Perth whose premiership window is still well and truly open as opposed to Swans who appear to be going into a rebuilding mode, so his chances of another flag are certainly higher at the Falcons.

Also I don't subscribe to the theory that Andrew owes Swans anything, he repaid his debt with interest in 2010 and if he had come back to Swans this year it would have been a bonus. You never know, if Swans can use the money that they were going to pay Andrew to recruit a few experienced solid WAFL players who will assist some of the younger guys they may get some benefit.

I wish Andrew well at West Perth and to me you will always be a Swans legend for what you did in 2010.

the tax story was at the start of this year and arrangements were made so not sure if this is old news..
player payments would be for 2013 if true as the last of the players requiring money from years back - Lange was sorted in 2012/2013.
not sure on the super but given we have an efficient treasurer as he would be liable i would think for not declaring correct information.
will wait and see if people on here have old news..

below is a statment from earlier in the year, if anyone has information to contradict this they shoudl post it.

Firstly, I confirm that Swans has a significant tax bill with the ATO. However, Swans do have it under control. I would like to advise that the ATO debt mentioned in The West Australian article dates 16/1/13, is not a new debt, it is part of the losses incurred in the 2011 financial year.

Once the new team of Directors got in, we attacked it straight away and came up with a financial plan. We will be paying approximately 50% of it in the next couple of weeks and then work through a payment plan with the ATO for the balance.

We basically had to get ourselves into a position financially to be able to lodge everything outstanding with the ATO to a) be able to pay them a lump sum payment b) confidently work with them on a plan to cover off the balance. We were in a position to do so before 31 December 2012.

The substantial 2011 loss meant that we fell behind with all creditors and we then fulfilled a significant regional community program unfunded from July to December 2012. This was a significant sum of money and came at a trying time, though we were still able to run those programs successfully and finish 2012 with a small P&L profit; albeit with a very tight cash flow.

The Board of Directors are urging members to renew their membership and use the club's facilities. Early indications at this time of the year are that Swans are going to be successful on and off the field.

Sincerely,

David Parkinson
President, Swan Districts Football Club

I think we had more than 1 player on our playing list in 2011/12 from memory..

if you are not prepared to disclose his name then fair enough but he obviously doesnt need the money if he has waited this long, i'd be down the club demanding payment if it was me..

send me his name and i'll get someone at the club to chase it up..
