These last 2 games against the best 2 teams in the comp were going to be a true test of Swans game style and on both occasions they were exposed quite badly. Losing contest and starting the majority of your attacks from the back half is fraught with danger and unsustainable, it happens almost every week. The only real way to be a genuine contender is playing a contested brand with a bit of chaos that is backed up by consistent pressure and effort, and a fwd half game.

Swans wane in form for mine has been because of an overuse of the football backward of centre and teams have brought a higher level of in your face pressure that has then resulted in an unbalanced disposal count and far too many handballs. These days if you do use more of the handball then it’s needs to be more of a fwd handball to players out the front but in recent weeks the extra hand balls are sideways and backwards to try and relieve pressure and all that’s resulting in is more handballs and more pressure. And intern Swans pressure has also dropped which hasn’t allowed them to create enough turnovers and slingshot back the other way.

Swans must fix the contest, hit more 45’s to change angles rather than go sideways or backwards and have more emphasis on fwd handballs.

Forecast for the back half of the week does not look promising so hopefully the ground can hold up.

You’d expect Notte and Blakely to come in. Interestingly Germs was listed in the best yesterday but that’s probably not worth the paper it’s written on.

Some big calls on the make up of the team. Does Erceg hold his spot with Notte returning, does Chipper continue to play as he lacks leg speed and a defensive edge while not a great attacking option either - Cartwright and Hewitt better options
imo.

A lot for Pruyn and his team to consider.

Hopefully the boys can come with a level of intensity that the opportunity requires, from the first bounce, and us long suffering supporters can look forward to a double chance run at it.
Nothing a sunny, fair weather footballing day can’t fix for mine, allowing for positive 45s rather than negative 45s. Praying for good weather this week and during the finals or we likely go out in straight sets 🙏

The difference between victory and defeat for Swans on Saturday could not be more stark
If they win, its a double chance and a home final.
If they lose to Perth the most likely outcome is an away elimination final against Claremont and a quick knock out.
If South's win by a lot  we may not even get a final
They need to dig deep this week
