So we can consign that embarrassing state game to the dustbin of history and get on with the WAFL competition which will have some great games this weekend including this one. West Perth are on 3 wins and 3 losses with Swans at 2- 4, so you would think that this will be a real tight battle. An important 4 points on the line here as these two teams may be competing for one spot in the finals come the end of the year and if Swans in particular lose this game we will find ourselves 2 games behind the Falcons.

Swans did have a lot of the ball against Peel but we were very wasteful and gave our forwards very little chance with kicks bombed into the forward 50. That aspect will have to be tided up and if we can score 15- 9 rather than 9-15 we may be in with a good chance.

Apparently some rain forecast for Saturday but I will believe it when I see it!

If Swans can get orf to a good start in the match, they'll give this a really good shake. They've scores 70 Goals (thus far) in the season to Westies 74. Not a great deal of difference in the goal scoring stakes. Both teams currently on 50% goal scoring accuracy. The forecasted rain is a 50-50 chance it's been said. Should be a top notch game.

Anthony Stephens back in the ressies team from injury, still no sign of Sydney Stack. Very disappointing but I suppose ,given the issues Perth had with him, not surprising.

What a great game of footy. If all the matches were of a high standard as this match, surely it should bring the crowds back. West Perth had their chances, especially with a good half time lead. Swans third quarter was very productive and held a narrow lead at three quarter time. Keeping their composure in the final term got them over the line.

impressive win that one - watched the last bit of it
hear the Cardies had a player break a leg or ankle earlier and that may have sapped them a bit
really tightens the race

I'm struggling to process what happened there. West Perth were so dominant in the first quarter and a half it looked to me like they were going to win by 60+. Then a terrible incident where Nelson broke his ankle seemed to change the momentum of the game. Swans had been labouring in their forward line in the first half where Kohlmann appeared to be struggling to break into a jog and the West Perth defenders had things easy. Obviously Kohlmann was injured, not reappearing after half time and Tom Edwards became a target in the third quarter.

All of a sudden, Swans started running and turned the game around completely. The sprinkling of rain helped negate West Perths ariel supremacy and Swans used their pace advantage to deliver to Edwards. We also were getting far more clearances in the 3rd quarter and put more pressure on the West Perth players with the ball.

West Perth steadied in the last quarter and could have still snatched the game in the first 15 mins, where they were pretty much exclusively in their 50 but wasted opportunities. Then when Swans got their chances they nailed them and that was the difference in the end.

Overall it was 12-6 to 4-6 from the 6 minute mark of the 2nd Quarter when West Perth were 35 points up.

Our interstate recruits, Chalcraft, Rokahr and McLaughlin were all outstanding today.

Much happened today that I hope Swans take note of and action for the rest of the year. Two things happened that changed the game - Kohlmann went off after half-time, forcing Swans to change their forward line game plan that to that point had been inept, and O'Donohue moved off Knott to the wing/middle. Edwards' fast leading and four goal purple-patch in the third showed what can be achieved with the good supply that has been wasted all season. Too often against C'mont (yes, we won) and peel (a loss) we bombed the ball in trying to reach the stay-at-home Kohlmann, but Edwards works further up the ground where he can take better advantage of the short-passing game.

While Edwards' move to full-forward was forced on the club due to injury, O'Donohue move off Knott was more risky. However, his third-quarter was superb, getting his hand on the ball often in the middle and driving Swans' forward. He made a few mistakes, but I think the tagging defender showed he has another string to his bow.

Jehb did show that he is more than just a tagger and Swans are possibly wasting his talents by using him exclusively in that role.

What is your view on Germs today SH?  He won the tap count but he didnt do enough around the ground in my view. At least Glass-McCasker threw himself into the contest, even though he didn't have a wonderful day either. This big man issue will continue to be a problem for Swans.

Great to see Tony Notte make a significant contribution in his 299th game. A rare off day for Jesse (by his standards anyway) but some of the other midfielders came to the party. Cipro, Clarke Chipper and Pina were all prominent at times. Cipro kicked a great long goal in the 2nd quarter which was the start of the fightback.

As you mentioned Mike, Swans had a bipolar game, making it difficult accessing any players' 100 minute efforts - almost unsighted in the first half (Lynch, Cipro, Glass, Reidy, Pina - but the later two started to roll late in the second) to bloody champions in the second half although Glass was still quite.

I feel that I unfairly critique Germs, but although winning the taps on the stats sheet like he did yesterday, we rarely win the ruck when he is on the ball. Is it those around him that aren't reading his taps? Unlikely. Even O'Donohue's effort in the middle in the second half yesterday was not because of his ability to gather the ball first but by pressuring the WP followers that already had the ball - he sharked a few wayward handballs. I would like to see Germs become a knock ruckman.

Blakely did not play yesterday - work I assume - but while not winning as many taps when he plays, we get the ball from the middle more often. That is not a statement that he is better than Germs and should play before Germs, for Blakely is not the long term fix either, but it just highlights the on-going issue that your state Mike about ruckman.

I hadn't noticed it until mentioned, but Germs' no kicks and only one mark does show the issue of his effort around the ground.
