Pruyn Signs as New Swans Coach
Swan Districts Football Club is delighted to announce Andrew Pruyn as its new Senior WAFL Coach.
The club recently completed the recruitment process for a new Senior Coach and received interest from many high calibre applicants.  The aim was to recruit a person with the ability to be the cornerstone of an enduring and sustainable high performing football department.
“We’re very confident Andrew can build a strong culture among the senior squad including our senior and emerging players, coaches and support staff”, said Swans President Peter Hodyl.   “We know Andrew’s a committed Swans man. He’s been at the club in various roles for over 20 years. He’s focussed and determined, and is the ideal person for our club in this role at this point in time”. Pruyn is expected to build on the achievements made over the first three years of the club’s five year Football Strategic Plan 2020 – 2024.
The key attributes the club looked for in its new coach was the ability to build strong relationships, create a deep connection with its talent program, and deliver on field success.  Pruyn, a successful businessman in the Swan Valley, was the Senior Assistant League Coach at Swans for the past three seasons and also in 2016 and 2017 under Greg Harding. He was the club’s Reserves coach in 2013 – 2015 and previously played for the club over a six year period including under club legend John Todd.  “I’m really excited at the opportunity. We’ve got a terrific group of players and a strong club structure. I plan to get as many past players as possible back involved with the club to help build on the legacy left from those who have been before us”, says Pruyn.
Peter Hodyl reinforced the club’s steadfast commitment with its on field and off field strategic plans which are future proofing the club’s long and rich heritage.  “We’re continuing to build a robust business model built on building community and developing people”, he said.

Congratulations Andrew, I sincerely hope you can lead us in to a new era of sustained success on the League football field whilst also continuing our development of youth through our system from development squads to Colts and on to Seniors.
No more acceptance of our club drifting between 5th to last on the ladder.
Hopefully the club will give you the necessary support and resources to achieve these goals.

Congratulations Andrew, I wish you all the best.

Did the club actually consider anyone outside for the position?  Have we still got money issues?

He is a Swans man which is a positive and he has coaching experience in reserves and under age competitions. It is a bit of a risk without senior coaching experience but Pickering was also a rookie coach when he came to Swans.

Exactly Mikeh...How has that turned out for us? Basically a waste of 4-5 years with a decent squad. I am really struggling with this appointment. So the board says we have lots in the bank, we want to scour the country for the best talent blah blah blah and then they go and appoint one of the assistants within 2 weeks - Its a farce. I hope the whole panel that made the call are ready to fall on their sword.

How about taking your time - see who falls out of a tree at seasons end. Make a big offer to a high profile AFL Assistant coach looking at his own gig or a newly retired player. Did they ask David Mundy for example? He said so himself - he has a degree in footy - he would love to coach his own team. Robbie Gray? Chris Mayne? Brad Sheppard? Be relevant for a change! It smacks of amatuer hour down at Basso. We should be targeting the best available not the bloke that has sat in the assistant chair and never had any success in his career as a player or a coach..

But dont worry - all the top people down there can pat themselves on the back - they feed the homeless, visit the pilbara regularly, support all sorts of other footy teams except the one team that actually pays the bills and people want to watch. Its a joke

The club needs to be careful, outsiders have won all of SD's flags; this is not unusal either, and is also the case at WP.
