Back to Basso again this week for a clash with Peel who could have anywhere up to 17 Freo players playing for them this week depending on whether the likes of Fyfe, Walters, Taberner & Switkowski are all back in their League afl team, as they really have next to no injuries at the moment.
It looks like they had a few late outs last week vs Subi too with illness so they would all be back you would expect.

For Swans we just have to have a red hot crack for 4qtrs, easier said than done as I dont think we are capable of it as yet but we will get smashed if we dont come to play.
Germs against Meek will be a pivotal clash as you could see Meek giving their midfield an armchair ride if we cant combat them or at the very least halve these contests.

This is going to be a very tough game to win given the current make up of the Peel team. All we can hope for is a 100% four quarter effort  from the boys and if that's not good enough then so be it.
The prize for victory will be 5-3 record and a spot in the top 5 which hopefully will be an incentive for the players.

Mike I think Peel only had 6 or 7 Dockers play last week vs Subi which was less than Eagles listed players playing for WCER against us would you believe.
Yes Fyfe playing was obviously the big talking point but they had a number out with covid (Wilson, Erasmus, Johnson etc) plus injuries or suspension to a few afl regulars like Walters, Taberner, Chapman, Switkowski etc meant guys like Hughes, Meek, Tucker, Banfield etc got an opportunity and Crowden was the medi/sub and Blakely was held over.
We can expect to face up to a far stronger Peel with most of those guys back playing afl this week meaning a lot will drop back to Peel.

So  I counted 11 freo players in the Peel team, certainly a tough proposition for the Swans guys this weekend even with no Fyfe.
Claremont have to contend with about 15 AFL Eagles including Liam Ryan.

On a positive note.
Out of the last ten matches against these pricks, Swan Districts have won 7 apparently.

A champion team will always beat a team of champions. A gritty win.

Well done SD on that 2nd half... .Jones has been a real plus for you boys up front, real focal point along side Palmer, just with more cm on him....Jones usually plays up back from memory?

How good was that win!!!!

really impressed by some of the timely and pivotal pressure work of Kemp in the 2nd half. Sometimes it’s the small things that make a huge difference. Fish stepped up when needed in the last qtr and showed his class. Jesse Turner keeps getting better- 8 tackles along with his 40 touches- having his best season and surely must be working his way in to contention for a look in at AFL level. If nothing else his work rate is elite. Also loved the game of ODonohue up back - a player that adds confidence

so many positives come out of this game - seeing the team come together, put the clamps down and find a way to win this one in my eyes is one of the better moments we’ve had down at basso over the past 3-4 years. The spirit of this team in the second half did not go unnoticed. Great stuff !!!

I have to say I gave us next to no hope of winning this considering Peel had 12 Dockers playing including the likes of Meek, Blakely, Treacy, Hamling, Crowden etc who would be walk up starts at half of the afl teams including their next door neighbours at Eagle Park and after they beat Subi at Leederville last week with only 6 Freo blokes playing.
And then throw into the mix they went nearly 4 goals ahead in the 3rd qtr and a couple of times went 2 goals ahead in the last only for us to fight back hard and quickly on all occasions.
Even when Jones kicked the miraculous goal over his head to put us in front the last time there would have been nearly 5 minutes of play left in which we invariably cough up the lead late but I thought we showed some good composure late, played more percentage football, Peel rolled the dice a bit and pushed guys forward to try and kick the sealer but we didnt give in so hopefully we are learning not to panic late in games when it is all on the line after so may heartbreaking defeats in similar circumstances.
I agree with DW some of the little 1%ers that were evident in the second half did not go unnoticed by me including the great smother down back on Henry's kick from 50m which was a certain goal stopped.
