After an arm wrestle last week against SF at home this week we take on the WCER.
They will have a lot stronger team take the field this week then they have had early in the season with the experienced likes of Yeo, Sheed, Dixon, Naish, Strnadica etc and with the expected return of Hurn & co as well you can expect a few more to drop back.

For Swans I assume we may get Notte & Germs back from covid/concussion, I think Bright had a 1 week suspension, whilst E.Hewett was away with an Australian 18s team and not sure on the status of the likes of Ireland, Waite, Spackman, J Watson, B.Watson, Stephens, B.Hewett etc who have all been missing injured I presume?

Didn’t attend today’s game due to work. Good to see Jesse Palmer troubling the scoreboard looking at the match report.

anyone attend the match today?  Did we limp through this one or were WC up for it today. See WC had a few bigger names running around- not necessarily players in form.

be keen to hear if young Bazzo looked the part if anyone did attend !

The same fixture at Steele Blue last year.WCER gave Swans a good game and like wise today.Adding some West Coast talent made SD work hard.
Eagles had the better 2nd qtr and goaled first in the 3rd.And went out to a 15 point lead. Then Swans slowly got on top in the midfield+made space in the fwd line.
Both teams looked tied in the last qtr.Quiet a warm winter's day for footy. With a good amount of fans on the grass bank enjoying the winter sunshine.
Eagles remained competitive till the end .But Swans had them covered in the last qtr.
Elliott Yeo took a great mark over Aiden Clark in the last qtr. Then may of given Aiden a left hook.A few Swans players reminstrated and ripped Elliotts jumper off.Dont think it will go any further..
I want to be at the footy when Thomas Edwards. Finally pulls down that big pack mark,he got on top of the pack a number or times today..He also flew high late in the 3rd and landed head first on the ground. But got up and played on.A big mark will get the attention of the AFL recruiters.

A win is a win - especially against Victorian scum - but the percentage booster we all hoped for did not eventuate. Swans were poor in the first half - slow, no communication between players and no teamwork. However, the spray they received at half time - and it had to be a spray - did the trick. I have not been a fan of Pina and his first half did not change my opinion of him, but his second half was fantastic, with attack on the ball and he finally using his pace.

The football commission state that the player's head is sacrosanct - bullshit. What umpire Johanson showed today is that certain player's heads are less important than others and that the reputation of the player knocking a man's head around also has a bearing on the decision. Yeo was rightfully reported for hitting Clarke twice while on the ground. Gutless umpiring and a dog act from Yeo, but as you say  gtrxuone , it will go no further because it's a fancied eagles player.

Success Hill Elliott doesn't know much about Basso oval. The last place you belt a swans player is in front of the McDonald' stand.

Funny old game. Firstly great to see the members of the 2010 premiership team there and populating the Swan Bar near the scoreboard. Certainly added to the atmosphere. Every time Tony Notte did something they gave him a big cheer.

In the first five minutes Swans attacked in waves and seemed to have a lot of space, they scored a goal and a couple of points fairly easily then just appeared to relax as if to say its going to be easy. WRONG!  The Eagles were allowed to accumulate possessions fairly easily and started to gain in confidence. Suddenly Swans found themselves chasing Eagles guernseys and struggling to create scoring  opportunities.

West Coast dominated the second quarter kicking with a slight breeze and it was noticeable that even though their A graders in Yeo and Sheed were playing well, they were being well supported by some of their lesser lights and were linking well together as a team. Swans on the other hand were struggling to put together a coherent passage of play and were finding it difficult to move the ball into their forward 50. To be honest I thought we were lucky to be only 15 points down at half time.

To the guys credit they came out with a different mindset in the 3rd quarter and started playing to their strength which is quick movement of the ball and they converted this into a 6 goal quarter. Great to see Jesse Palmer getting into some form. Our mids particularly Turner ,Clarke Fisher and Watson were prominent. When Swans stretched the lead to 3 goals with 5 minutes to go in the 3rd, I thought we may get the percentage booster after all, but the Eagles came again, reduced the margin and ensured that the last quarter was going to be tense.

Even though the margin stayed at 2 goals for most of the last term, I thought our defence was in control for the majority of the time, we had our chances to ice the game but missed a few set shots into the breeze. The Eagles looked more fatigued than us so I was never really worried that we might be overrun.

So we take the 4 points and move on but hopefully lesson learned that they cannot take any game for granted, no matter how low on the ladder their opponent is. The effort they put in today will be nowhere near good enough against Peel next week.

That's true gtrxuone, but the response from the crowd to the incident wasn't directed at Yeo - footballers will be footballers - but to the umpire for the non-decision. Yeo must have been reported by another field umpire because Johanson didn't pull out his book.

Glad the dissent rule doesn't apply to spectators; I would have been standing the mark at the Midland town hall.

The Germs/Sheed combination was interesting to watch yesterday - shame they were on opposite sides. Our rovers could learn much from Sheed in the way he sharked Germs' knocks.

SH- enjoyed watching both D Sheed and E Yeo yesterday.
D Sheed will forever be a part of WA's sporting history.Kicking the winning goal for West Coast in an AFL Grand Final.Hes a wonderfully l polished footballer who reads the play very well.

Even though Swans were nowhere near their best yesterday, I came away with the view that the Eagles are not going to be as easy to beat in the 2nd half of the year as they have been so far. They played really well at various stages of the game and it wasn't just the influence of their " elite players".

As their AFL team stabilises with injured players returning, the quality of the WAFL team will also get better. I think they will upset at least one club over the next month, I thought we were going to be the unlucky team at half time yesterday.

Did anyone get a close view of the Yeo incident? I would be interested to know if you think he has a chance of being sanctioned for it. Its pretty rare for AFL clubs to have their players suspended in WAFL games. Interesting point that SH made was that the non officiating umpire was the one who reported him. Were you in the McDonald Stand SH?

Yes, I was in the stand. He should go for a break, but I do not think he will for the reasons stated. In addition, the tribunal will see Yeo's actions as retaliation to Clarke tunnelling him in a marking contest. Two solid cracks to Clarke's head while on the ground will mean little. After Yeo cleared the ball - the umpire still paid this mark - Clarke and someone else remonstrated with Yeo. Yeo throwing Clarke to the ground was when the ball was returned to our forward line for a Clarke free-kick. Johanson couldn't ignore it twice in a row...

While two Swans players took on Yeo none of his team mates ran to support him. Great club the eagles.
