Another season is looking down the gurgler only 5 weeks in.
You have to wonder how a side can be so inconsistent from quarter to quarter let alone game to game.
Once again we let a game slip when leading late into the last qtr, is it a fitness issue, mental issue, both or other?
I have my opinion but the fact it hasnt been addressed over the last few years is not good enough by those responsible.

This week we take on SF who had a very good win against a stacked of Dockers Peelmantle at home and will be extremely confident of beating a SD side they have beaten consistently over the last 6 or 7 years.
The likes of Schloithe, Suban, Florenca, Blechynden, Main & co will no doubt have their 30+ disposals again and feed the likes of Shaw, Miller, Ah Chee, Strom, McCarthy & Donaldson regular lace out footy.

BH...I thought your boys were very good on the weekend and paid the price for one ordinary quarter. You have some very good young blokes coming through and the fact you won against Claremont suggests to me you're very much on the improve.

A few out with covid this week, one especially a big loss.
Not sure if Germs out with concussion either

It has just been one of those years were absolutely nothing has gone right!
Unfortunately we have seen far too many of them in the last 30 years or so!

Good effort today. Despite some good possession winners it was one of those rare team performances from the 22. Tackling was superb - so many times South's prime movers were collared before an effective disposal could occur. I liked Edwards' game in defence who filled the missing Notte's role of drifting in for a defensive mark, while thank god Kemp can kick a ball straight. But a special mention to Morris. He was beaten, but he did enough in the packs to interfere with South's usual ultra-clean supply out of the middle. He just needs a few surf and turfs from the Guildford...

Our pressure was great all day. Schloithe didnt have the impact he normally does even though we handed him a goal on a platter with a 50 metre penalty late in the 2nd. I thought Souths were going to come home with the breeze in the last quarter but our guys dug deep and I thought should have nailed the game a lot earlier. Some of the set shot misses were not difficult and Jones in particular needs to do more practice if he is going to stay up forward, which he should because he is a real target and a strong mark.  As SH said Kemp was the only one who you could bet on to kick truly.

Our defence was watertight all day even in the absence of Notte. Young Morris created a contest in the centre clearances. I think he has potential.

I thought our pace troubled Souths at times and many of their bigger guys fatigued in the last quarter. I will be surprised if Florenca doesnt get a call up at the preseason draft, he looks every bit an AFL standard footballer.

After a 0-2 start to the season Swans have now won 3 of the last 4 (and we probably should have beaten Subiaco) and in a season which is poised to be very competitive, I think we are building. We have recently knocked over 2 of our bogey teams and that will give the guys confidence that they can beat anyone on their day.

At times I was a little frustrated when they were over using the handball, particularly in the 3rd quarter, but I think they got the kick/handball balance pretty right for most of the day. Also pleasingly the effort seemed to be there for the whole 4 quarters which is the first time that has happened this season.

I was thinking during the game gee this is a low scoring scrap although there was a tricky side breeze blowing down towards the Guildford end and we missed some absolute sodas from 25m out or so but looking at the scores from their previous games SF do restrict sides to low scores with 10.10 (70) the highest score kicked against them this year vs Claremont in a game the Tigers won so our 9.10 (64) was the 2nd highest score against them and as mentioned previously we missed some sitters in that.

I guess one positive out of this covid and injury ravaged season so far has been we have been able to give many youngsters a taste of League football so far we have had 8 debutants in the first 6 games and used 32 players already, and all 4 emergencies named on Saturday would have been debutants as well if called upon late as has happened in all bar 1 game previously this season. Well done to Morris & Hilton on their respective debuts and both showed they have a future if they continue to work hard on their craft.
