Time to move on from our poor performance against SF at home last Saturday and start preparing for a Perth side that took it right up to a near full strength EP on the weekend.
These clashes are usually very hard fought and would expect nothing less again this week.
Would expect a few changes from what was an underwhelming showing at home although the Ressies were also very ordinary against SF as well.
Hopefully Anderson is back for us who was a late withdrawal against SF?

Not sure if Jetta will be fit to play this week BH and also Bright was injured during the game so there will probably be a few forced changes anyway.

Swans just need to bring the intensity and desire they obviously showed against Subiaco which was totally missing against Souths and West Perth. There is too much of a difference between their best and their worst.

Saturday was the first time I had seen Germs live and I reckon that he has got lots of potential and should be able to take on the responsibility of the ruck role this week against Perth. This will allow Gault to play as a semi permanent marking forward which gives our forward line another dimension. I noticed that Palmer was swamped by opponents on Saturday and he is more of a leading high half forward type of player, than a bulky forward,  so Gault's regular presence would free him up somewhat.

The other guy who caught my eye on Saturday was Reidy. I reckon that he has improved over the last 12 months and is ready to take on a more responsible role in the midfield. He has good disposal skills and most importantly he gets in to the fray whatever the scoreboard says.

Yes Mike. Reidy stood out to me as well when you lot played Subi a few weeks ago as I mentioned on the game day thread. Tall, rangy, good speed and uses the ball well. He didn't have a lot of touches that day but showed plenty of promise.

mikeh I appreciate your posts on here, so I hope you will pardon my sarcasm in this post.

The idea of having Gault up forward allowing Palmer to be a leading forward is preposterous.  Next thing you will be wanting is a forward pocket to pick up the crumbs.  And the 'please sir I want some more" moment is a full and functioning forward line.

Fair enough Swan 42, Like all Swans supporters I am trying to think of a way that Swans can kick more than 8 or 9 goals in a match with the current squad. They have had Noble, Wilson and Palmer as well as the resting ruckmen up forward in the last game with no real impact. I know you have been critical of the game plan and ideally it would be good to see a 6 man forward line but in the absence of this change of coaching strategy what is the solution in your view?

I rate Wilson's kicking so I would move him upfield where he would be able to honour leads from the likes of Palmer.  I am sure that I am not alone in the frustration of being consistently outnumbered in our forward line.  On a similar theme I think that there is very little benefit in the likes of Noble whilst ostensibly playing as a half-forward taking marks on the wing.

I don't believe that we can on a consistent basis keep quality opposition teams to under 8 goals.  So we need to change our mindset to play a more attacking style of footy.  Less kicking back and forth in the backline and more direct footy.

Good observations Swan 42
Interestingly to back up your point, Pickerings message at 3 quarter time on Saturday was to take the game on, play with some dare and try and get some goals. The result was 4 goals 1 which won them the Quarter and was only 9 points less than what they had scored up to the last change . Their footy was far quicker and more direct and opened up a few more opportunities for our forwards. I suppose we have to take into account that the game was done and dusted by that stage and Souths may have taken their foot off the accelerator, but it does make me wonder why Swans don't try this earlier in the game instead of the static passive footy they often play against the better teams.

In my opinion and this is not just limited to Swans, the one word I would use to describe modern day footy is selfish.  Players kick to an unmarked player 25 metres away so they don't have the responsibility to move the ball forward.  Another example of this is where a player will position themselves to receive a handball rather than shepherd.

Specifically with respect to Swans, Swans players play the way the coach wants them to play.  A 3/4 time address may have a temporary change in approach but it is only a very transitory change.

I saw that happen far too many times on Saturday 42 across the League & Reserves games, where we have players running past for cheap handballs but then the one dishing off then just stands there like a statue and doesnt shepherd or block the opponent chasing the player he off loaded too.
It makes my blood boil and just one of a thousand reasons why football is not a patch on the game I grew up watching 40 years or so ago.
It is either selfish, dumb, not team oriented or all of the above!

Hand ball's received are a KPI for most teams as it shows how hard players are working to get the ball moving to break down defensive structures further up the ground.
