Fantastic result by the Swans
Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

That is ridiculous, how is that possible? Seems some clubs exploited the government handouts better than others.

The Board and GM have achieved a great result for Swans.

DD, the article explains how the financial result was achieved pretty well. I’ll let you do the maths on how much they saved with 30 permanent staff on JobKeeper at $1500 per fortnight then add company’s able to retain the PAYG component.

Cheers TT so 30 staff most must be part of their Community Development Program that was previously backed by BHP?

Does staff include players? Were players able to claim Jobkeeper for loss of match payments when clubs told players they will have to take a significant cut?

Seems like mass manipulation of the generous Jobkeeper program to me. I received Jobkeeper in the first rollout but kept working but haven't qualified in the second and third rollouts.

Got no problem with anyone legitimately claiming Jobkeeper but I smell a rat here and I'm not just pointing the finger at Swans. At the end of the day future generations have to pay this back plus interest.

DD I think, and I'll stand corrected, in most cases the players pay is like a second job, secondary income, so not recognised under Jobkeeper, just their main job as a tradie, or whatever is recognised, my understanding is that its just for their main income. Players who are students would get it as it would be their primary income source.

I'm with DD on this one. It's an extraordinary result but how does a WAFL club have 30 permanent employees? It appears the $2.8m community division revenue was the BHP sponsorship which would have covered salaries etc. in that area but where were the other 30 employed?

I'm sure it's all above board but hey, it's an amazing result in these times so you have to wonder how it came about.

Well done,

the question that was raised at our AGM was abt the consequences of such good fiscal result for all clubs with the disbursement from the AFL clubs and WA government through the WAFC.

AFL clubs would have benefited from Jobkeeper as well Grump.
