Well we are already half way through the 2020 season (dont get me started on the ridiculous 8 games only) and at 0-4 finals are already out of the question with that sterling organisation the WAFC fixturing us (last placed in 2019) against the Top 4 from 2019 straight up.
I guess one positive from the first 4 games is we have been in all at some stage but we just cannot put more than a quarter or 2 together which has been an issue for at least 5 years and not much if anything seems to have been done about it.
I know a number of Swans posters here have been happy with the effort of the players in the games so far but for mine "effort" is a non negotiable at WAFL level and should be a KPI, I still see glaring skill errors especially by foot but also handballs as well, decision making gets worse as the game goes on whilst I also believe we should be making more use of our ruck dominance in games.
But the killer for me is the continual non scoring ability, so far we have had pitiful goal tallies of- 6, 7, 6, 7 in our 4 games. That would be our qtr by qtr goal tally back in the good ol days and for a side that is getting as much of the footy as our opposition suggests to me we are not getting the footy in to dangerous areas inside our 50 quickly, precisely or often enough.
Our club does not know how to win or close out games anymore as evidenced with ZERO wins in any grade so far at the half way mark of the season.....not bloody good enough!
Another thing that has become obvious to me is we are far too nice a club and it is about time we actually stand up and get some unsociable aspects back into our footy in all grades, now get the high vis gear & the Steel Blue work boots on, roll the sleeves up and get to work starting this bloody week as Peel are in the same boat as us and will be desperate as hell!

The two big fellas have to get deep forward & put 2 goals per game on the board for you mate - that will be a huge pressure release on the rest of the team

BH: good post
just on the fixture thing, I found a similar problem for Subi in 78: in the first four games every team we played finished fifth or higher; we ran into SD in round 5; in 77 we finished sixth, but we lost our last two games of the season against the bottom two sides CL and SD. Do you think the players hated Dougue?

The "Showdown for the Spoon" match We really should be winning this game at home, however nothing is a given and Peel still have a good core of players capable of taking it away if we are not on song. I am quietly confident given what I have seen in the last few weeks.

Spot on Mike, the likes of Ballantyne, Bell, Howlett, Merrett, Bootsma, Bennell, Thorne, Hancock, Lawler, Randall, Boullineau, Holmes etc are very good WAFL players most of those are WAFL Premiership players as well.

If Swans can play more consistent footy, there's no reason they can't win the four remaining matches. And having a good ending to the season will give the club a good foundation for next season. In my opinion, they could consider themselves a tad unlucky last week. If they manage the same intensity they showed in the first quarter against South Fremantle, they are going to be more than a handful for any opponent.

And mike that’s quite a silly statement in my view. We’ll win 3 of our last 4 injury permitting. A couple we’ll win by plenty too. Anyone want to bet me a steak meal on it?
