Can anyone recall the reports in the press in regards a big name sa player wanting to play for WA? It was 10 or fifteen years ago. At the time, it was claimmed that there was stiff opposition from players in the state squad so nothing eventuated.

Does anybody have any ideas?
Did'nt they fall out with mick arthur as well?

That would be Michael Haysman - it was a done deal but then he accepted a rebel tour invite to Saffa Land and still lives there to this day , Foxtel commentator nowadays too

Haysie must have hooked up with one of those hot South African birds on the rebel tours mate hence why he stayed over there.

i think the south africans have a soft spot for haysmen because he helped them out; He played well on the second rebel tour, as did our own gregory shipperd.
All the WI playes, such as the great Franklin Stephenson were also gove long term first class contracts in the currie cup.

Remember Ken McEwen playing a couple of seasons for WA as a batsman AR?
He may have been Rhodesian tho not SA?

i might be imagining it BH-- Ken was a saffie your right; watched him bat a few times on the tele, including for Perth or South Perth in one of the grade competitons. Do you re-call it?

Hershelle Gibbs played for the Scorchers but I don't think he was ever approached to play for the Shield team.
