Can anyone tell me why EF were more successful in the 90s with 3 flags, runner up and countless finals appearances....to being where they are now, flagless, owner of multiple spoons and very few top 4/5 finishes...can't remember EF having bucket loads of dosh during the 90s....be interested on not only EF fan views....but other non EF fan views..

EF have always had a very good metro and country zone so plenty of local talent coming through their ranks but lets face it in those Judge & Micale years EF did a helluva lot of recruiting from Vic especially the likes of- Abbott, Condon, Mellody, Bromage, Nichols, Kilmartin, Madigan, Kerr, O'Brien, Bowden etc plus picking up quality experienced players from other WAFL clubs like Malaxos, Spalding x 2, Egan, Willison, Morgan x 2, B.Krakouer, Lally, P.Davidson, Moss, Newman etc.
Also having very good WAFL players come back to your club after their AFL stints instead of being poached by Subi probably helped as well- Harding, Lockyer, Ellis, Browning, Treleven.

good post freezin
I would agree with all of BH's comment, in regards the good side, in terms of the bad side in more recent years, I would suggest three main problems

a -- the loss of the talent through the zone
b -- the decision making side does matter
c -- lack of money

do you know how many players were drafted in each decade?

These problems are not exclusive to East Fremantle. They would apply to all the clubs. Subiaco having money being the exception. Plenty of talent comes through the zones still - look at how many ex East Fremantle players are on AFL lists. But all clubs lose players like this. We seem to have nosedived badly after Malaxos left as coach. Back in the day at Moss Street there was always players around who had played in premierships at the club. Those days have past well and truly.

t-em good post -- I would just add that the problem of the draft is a relative thing. Subi have had very few players drafted comparred to EF in the last twenty years. This has meant Subi has gained strength in relation to EF over those years.
