great game of footy! Congratulations to West Perth who were far too good for us. Not only was the kicking for goal outstanding but so was their field kicking. West Perth ran in numbers and always appeared to have an extra man around the action. I don't ever recall seeing a WAFL game with such outstanding accuracy. I recall a game between East Perth and South Fremantle in the sixties with similar accuracy by both sides.

From an East Fremantle perspective there were two pivotal moments in the game. The loss of Tom Howlett who has been in outstanding form destablished the Sharks for a short period when WP kicked the next four goals following the unfortunate clash of bodies in the second quarter. Hopefully Tommy is ok after being taken to hospital. Another mystifying decision occurred when the WP runner was caught in the play about 70 metres from the EF goal. EF had moved the ball inside 50 to be marked about 25 metres from goal. The umpire then much to the disdain of the EF players awarded a free kick back where the runner had been. Perhaps someone could explain this decision. This is not a shot at the umpires as overall I thought they did a good job.

A marvellous game of WAFL football. Congratulations to both teams.

Have to say that this is one of the better summaries I have read on a game for quite a while
When a great game is played out its excellent to see how those who go for the sport of the day can see the best in what is played out in front of them, no matter the jumper being worn

you can't complain about losing when your side kicks so many and so straight.....unfortunately WP kicked better.....great advertisement for the WAFL. well done to WP on the win, always pretty good tussles between these two sides.....Custy you are spot on mate, Howlett is a key man in our defence, unfortunately his injury did put more emphasis on youngsters in Jansen and Jupp to step up.....good learning curve for them.....realistically if a youngster like Johnson from WP can do well in the league I'm surprised Howson hasn't been given a go.....surely up front he could of done better than the likes of Perham and Symonds?

Colts won easily, if they had kicked straight if would of been a 100 point win easily. Good fight back by the reserves to win......good to see some fella's continue to put their hands up like Chalwell, Hooker and Depane.....be interested if these three get a game v Norwood in the foxtel cup soon.

As much as the loss hurt, I was fixated on the munchers. They were so brilliant and precise. I couldn't help but think that their team on the day would have beaten some of the lower AFL teams. A good lesson to EF - that's the standard required to beat the top teams.

Good start to the day with colts winning comfortably and ressies returning to the winners list. Still a lot of work ahead for the ressies boys but a win was what was needed after a few losses.
Big test for the colts boys in 2 weeks time in the top of the table clash between 2 undefeated sides.

The league was a classic shootout and although we lost it was terrific spectacle of Autralian Rules footy. As has been said already Howlett injury hurt us and the cleaner WP was the difference in the end.

Crowd figure in the ST had it at 2000 but was more like around the 1500 mark. Thought the WP support was down on previous clashes...but with the game on TV they may have chose to stay at home...their loss as you wont get to see too mnay 40+ goals kicked in a game these days.

It was a pleasure seeing such an entertaining game & although we lost, I didn't feel as disappointed as I would have been if we had of played badly. The impact of the loss of Howlett has been commented on a few times.

I think we are lacking a bit in the tall man department. With the departure of Gabriel at the end of last year, Young being injured & Griffin being on AFL duties we are being stretched a bit. While Symonds & MacDougall are not bums, they are not of the quality of Griffin or Young. The positive is we are getting games into both these young players. More of our players are unavailable at present due to AFL duties, which is testing our depth but giving opportunities to the lesser lights who we will need even more next year.

I was impressed with both the skills of West Perth & the numbers they got around the ball to support each other.

The competition for spots in the 4 is going to be tight. Claremont is well placed with 7 wins & covering their outs well. Perth appears to be a new power & are challenging strongly. Swans & West Perth have both inflicted losses against us at home & are strong contenders. Before the season's start I was confident that we would be the strongest challenge to Claremont, but now it is not clear which way the season will pan out.

As for the crowd, I thought it looked between 1200 - 1500, which was disappointing for a clash between 2 teams fighting for a top 2 spot in good conditions. The game & the 2 sides deserved better.
