Yep SANFL have consistently been smarter and more pragmatic in its planning than the hopeless idiots in WA. On field success or lack of it is a good KPI as to a club that should merge not the only one but an important one. In that case Perth is clearly a candidate.

Simple really.

As for the 3 Flags for the SA Eagles, who's laying the bigger claim to 'em?Woodville fans or West Torrens fans?

Same problem for St George and Illawarra.Has St George won 16 Flags or Illawarra 1?As much as Rabbitohs fans hate the Dragons,in the cold hard light of day, just about No one will remember the Bennett Coached side,as having Won the Steelers their 1st Flag.

Wests Tigers,of whom they positively Hate each other, have Balmain and the Western Subirbs at each other's throats.Do people remember the flag in the 2000's as one for the Merger fanatics? Not likely. It'll either be Balmain's 12th Flag or Western Suburbs 4th?

Mergers might sound great,..........until the arguements start.

No thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bazza I can't understand for someone who supposedly has a fondness for the WAFL and Souths specifically that you are so ready to abandon that heritage and association.

Swan my family have been involved directly with SFFC for 97 years, 4 generations. I am well aware of the heritage factor.

But in case you haven't noticed the glory days of the WAFL are not coming back anytime soon, the comp as it stands today whether we like it or not is only on one trajectory and its not up.

As I previously explained history is amazing, but at the end of the day that's all it is, history, its doesn't pay the bills and it doesn't make for future success.

If anything it's my love for the club and what ever will be the WAFL of the future that I want to see it survive as a financially viable, competitive and powerful competition. If that means mergers than I am open to the idea.

If you think the AFL clubs are going away and they wont dominate the comp in the future with the two aligned ( reserves ) teams playing then your dreaming of the past, last years victory by Peel is just the taste of the future, the way I see it if there is going to be any real competition with them its only going to come from strong, wealthy and powerful player stocked clubs, and to do that old clubs may have to come together to form them and take them on in the decades to come. That's what will be build a comp that spectators will want to come and watch in the future. Its an investment in the future not the past.

People like me who have a memory of a pre AFL WAFL are rapidly drifting away in a decade or two that link will be gone and if we don't plan for that we will be irrelevant to the new generation.

Of course we are not going to get back to the the pre-devil incarnate (Eagles) days. That is a given. However, what I won't accept that there is not a place for a viable WAFL competition. What it needs is for the WAFC to act in the best interests of the WAFL not as is current the case the exact opposite. The host club alignment epitomises what I am talking about. If the WAFC had showed some guts and made a decision that was for the benefit of the WAFL it would have told the two WA-domiciled AFL clubs that the host club alignment is not acceptable to the viability and integrity of the WAFL. No ifs, no buts.

Do I want to happen to the WAFL what has happened to the VFA? No I don't.

The Alignment is not going away, it will just get more dominant. The WAFC wont be doing anything to upset the Dockers or Eagles. That fight is lost and the WAFL clubs are powerless to stop it.

As explained above I want a viable WAFL as well, and that's not happening under the current model.

That is another reason why we need a change of government and for them to tell the WAFC to do what they are supposed to do and look after the best interests of the WAFL.

Nothing will change with the ALP coming in, the State Government relinquished power over the WAFC decades ago, when was the last minister to sit on the WAFC board? I will tell you 1989.

Swan where is the most votes, being on the side of the Eagles and Dockers or WAFL?

Its hardly going to be a vote winner having the Eagles and Dockers turning against the Gov.
