RIP Judgey

I was lucky enough to have met Ken quite a few times and as DW mentioned he was a great fella to talk footy & cricket with.
A personal memory I had with Ken was watching the 2008 Hawthorn v Geelong GF with Judgey at a function he was the guest speaker at, the Hawks were rank outsiders but he believed they could cause an upset and indeed did so and he was mighty proud of their achievement celebrating with a few sherberts that day.
All the talk in the media has been mostly about him coaching the Budgies & Hawks but he was a very clever, classy, skilful half forward/centreman for Old Easts and as Freeze mentioned extremely dangerous around the goals were he made the impossible look easy.
I also enjoyed his commentary on the ABC were he called a spade a spade and he didnt pander to the Budgies & Dorks like the other sycophant numpties on the airwaves these days.

Rest in peace to another childhood footy hero :( What I get annoyed about throughout the media is how they mention all his various VFL/AFL achievements and involvement's and barely mention his stellar times with East Fremantle, that if they mention it at all. Gets up my goat big time. Gary Buckenaras tribute on 6PR last night with Harvey Deegan was worth listening to as well

Your best ever post. Ken is already missed
Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

Very shocked to hear the news, always enjoyed his time on 6pr, which he left after an on air blue with George G, and then was always good on ABC, very good articles in the paper, was not exactly Mr Personality but insightful and supported WAFL.

Very shocked when a workmate told me on Friday, one of the Sharks greats as a
player and coach.

enjoyed his comments on ABC, very good analyst of the game.
His commentary on ABC tv WAFL was unbiased and forthright, he was not afraid
to give the East Fremantle players cricitism if they played badly.
His knowledge of the game was profound, he will be sadly missed.
Condolences to his family, lets hope the Sharks players can respond on the field.

RIP Judgey

Reports were it was a massive turn out as expected. I wonder how the wake was attended at the EFFC? Would have great to be a fly on the wall and listen to all the old stories

Grassy wrote: Ken Judge's contribution to Football and Cricket, was immense.

My memories are football based, but from the tributes already given,he was loved as well,by those who knew him in the Cricket World.

EAST FREMANTLE and HAWTHORN were the clubs that stood out in his Football Career.Kicking goals was his forte, but he was more than that.He knew how to get the ball and how to use it.When you have opposition coaches like Mal Brown putting you in the same class as Brian Peake, you know you have a player of fantastic ability.Albeit in Brownie's own funny way of saying it. :silly:

A key player in EAST FREMANTLE's Premiership In The Year of Excitement,he could hold his own amongst the many outstanding players in that Team, such as Peake,Buhagiar,Taylor, the Greens,Turco et al.As he did when at Hawthorn, amongst their greats(Mathews,Knights,Dipper, etc),when a prolific goal kicker in their Premiership Team of '83 and their Grand Final sides following that Flag.

Can't account for his days atBrisbane Bears,as I'm not sure for starters,if those days did his career justice. That's for others to say.

Coached Hawthorn, driving them to greater limits in the mid to late 90's,when someone else may have struggled, with a declining Hawks side,at the end of a long, great era.

Came home to coach West Coast.Whilst things didn't work out,I'm quite sure he did everything he could On and Off the Field to make things right. If it were up to him,he would have been there longer and probably made things right.

He certainly did at EAST FREMANTLE,driving them to greater heights and stopping 2 Power Teams in South and Claremont.2 Flags was a Fantastic achievement and the brilliant timing of bringing his team to a Peak at the right time, were coaching Masterpieces.

His time as a commentator, especially WAFL are greatly appreciated, especially when sticking up for the WAFL,a rarity in local Football Media Circles. Will be greatly missed!Kind wishes to family, friends, team mates and colleagues.

RIP Ken Judge!

Mal Brown sent me a brief personal message on Tuesday last week expressing his sadness it read "Sad day when Ken Judge left us. Strong minded, straight shooter. Deepest sympathy to family." Succinct but true
