As quoted in today's West

"A prime-time Saturday night clash between East Fremantle and East Perth at Domain Stadium will highlight round one of the WAFL season next month in a bold start to the league’s new era on commercial television.

The fixture between the two premiership contenders will start at 7.10pm on March 21.

The game will be broadcast live across WA on digital channel 7Mate in a concerted effort to open the 2015 season with a bang.

Organisers are targeting a crowd of at least 5000 at the Subiaco venue for the clash between the Sharks and West Coast’s WAFL affiliates.

West Coast will promote the match heavily to members and up to half of East Perth’s team is expected to be Eagles players.
"WAFC operating officer Nick Sautner said there were big plans to make the match a “blockbuster”.

One-off promotions include broadcast sponsor reiwa.com giving a fan the chance to win $100,000.

“Fans will also be able to have a kick on the hallowed turf at the quarter and half-time breaks,” Sautner said.

“This will be the first of 18 live WAFL games on the Seven Network in 2015, not including finals, and we are genuinely excited about the new opportunities this will present for the competition.”

The WA Football Commission has underwritten much of the cost of holding the match at Domain Stadium, covering expenses such as security, ground cleaning and lighting."

Whilst the WAFC is underwriting much of the cost of the match what compensation will East Fremantle receive for not hosting the match at East Fremantle Oval? Will they receive the gate takings?...the bar takings etc?

Where does one start? A crowd of at least 5,000 given that and I quote "West Coast will promote the match heavily to members and up to half of East Perth’s team is expected to be Eagles players."

Will part of the "West Coast promotion" be that the club formerly known as East Perth will wear West Coast Eagles' jumpers for the match?

Will there be instructions given to the Eagles' members as to which team they are supposed to be supporting?

Apparently this is the first of 18 live games that will and I quote "This will be the first of 18 live WAFL games on the Seven Network in 2015, not including finals, and we are genuinely excited about the new opportunities this will present for the competition.” Presumably the first of these opportunities is for West Perth to give up a $200,000 sponsorship.

Hopefully the WAFC have consulted the Bureau of Meteorology to ensure that there is no rain; otherwise we can expect a very, very, very, very poor attendance given that was the WAFC's excuse for the low attendances for the club formerly known as East Perth's home games last season. Will the upper tiers be cordoned off like last season's Grand Final to "create some atmosphere"?

Perhaps we can wonder also why there are only 18 and not 23 live games, excluding finals, televised.

Good thinking by 7.
5000 at Subiaco oval will look great on the broadcast.
Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

ep reserves players have been instructed to carry in the eagle players bags alongside them as they enter the stadium :cheer:
if they pass that task well they will be considered for selection next week

Interesting to see Chris Pike referred to east perth once, then referred to them as the Eagles Affiliated club for the rest of the article. Good to see its not just we old farts on Oz Footy kicking up a stink.

58S according to that august of institutions, the WAFC, it is only me that has failed to move on from the metamorphosis of East Perth into the Eagles' Reserves. Notwithstanding the above perhaps it will be easier to refer to them as Eagles No 2 team rather than the club formerly known as East Perth.
