I went yesterday for the first time also.

As was mentioned, its going to take a bit of getting used to. Definitely the best crowd i've seen against the Eagles from a East Freo perspective. I would say that the new ground, free entry, fine weather as well as just curiosity helped a bit crowd wise. No doubt this will come down as the seasons change.

Which brings me to my concern/complaint about the ground. When the weather gets colder and wetter, in the past you could go into the bar and watch the game from in there. (just like other grounds) But..... where is the ability to do this at East Freo?? Top of the grandstand, where they have an outdoor bar area, but there is no bar area inside, where you can watch the game. I think a few folk, particularly the older set, will find it tough sitting out in the open seating area at times in winter. First world problems i know, but I would of thought that this would be a certain part of the plans for the development?

Yes, scoreboard crap, but this is in process of being changed. When, I am not sure. Surface seemed okay, but looked like it needed a good mow.

Freeze, I was with acquaintance at the game who is very good mates with Lukes dad. We also had a chat with Luke himself at the 3 quarter time huddle. (boy, he's a unit of a lad) and you are correct that it is lack of match fitness on why he didnt play. No reserves certainly hasnt helped his cause for next week either. The Eagles had some big boys, so he would of been handy in that sense, for sure.

I had also heard that Blackiston may be back within 4 weeks, but cannot verify the truth in this. This is interesting as i had read he was gone for the season!

Solid first up performance and great to see young Cocking look the part - 4 goals on debut and gave us a great springboard in the first Q. I agree on the day - though from up the top of the grandstand - the ground does look patchy in parts. Wet weather will be a concern - but i imagine casual observers will just pop in for a quarter or 2. Interesting to see crowd numbers. Thought the flag presentation was a bit half assed - but great to see Matthew Jupp bringing out the cup.

Massive test this week against Claremont. Got us with a few out a few weeks back but different proposition coming for the handbaggers.

It sounds like Green Grocer Stadium is just another shithole to replace the old shithole.

There is an indoor bar/function area, had blue and white balloons, with a window area but the view is not that great to the ground, from what I could see the facilities were coping pretty well with all the EF members, the bowling green did look like a bit of a wasted space though on match day, not sure if a temporary cover could be set up there.

I can now confirm this. I was told by one of the supporters during the game that Meade had injured his calf & had retired.

I spoke with a few EF people at the game & was told that both Hodge & Blackiston would be out for at least 5-6 weeks. I was told that Blackiston had dislocated his shoulder.

I had a very enjoyable day, seeing the new redeveloped ground & catching up with supporters.
There was a good vibe around the ground.
The game was a bit of a mixed bag from EF. The side was quite rusty & turned the ball over more than I would have liked & conceded a few soft goals. But I am happy with an 8-goal win, considering what happened in round 3 last year.
I thought the newcomers Avery & Cocking fitted in well with the side & contributed well.
I won't be able to make it to this week's game against Claremont, which is disappointing, as that will be a stern test for the side.
