It’s a shame that neither of the EF teams got to unveil the 2023 Premiership flags at the new ground. While the council has been copping it, and rightfully so, the club agreed to the design and arrangement at some point and therefore deserves criticisml
KC I've seen the original artists impression where the seated spectator area and indoor viewing area was at least double the size which I assume is what your club agreed to. At what point did your club learn that the final product was going to be significantly reduced to what is now?
And can I assume that in the original design you had ample room for the display of your premiership memorabilia? So if I'm an East Fremantle fan and member these are the questions I want answers for and the timeline of when the club learned this, did they communicate this with the members? If they didn't then they have failed in their duty to members and supporters.
It seems likely they've known for at least a couple of years that they were not going to get what they thought they were.
This is where the club has broken down - right there and then I would have told the council it was unacceptable and started looking for a new home. They are only now looking at their options - a bit late.
There's more questions than answers around this entire saga.
How does a club agree to have their clubhouse demolished without a new lease in place - signed and sealed ready for lockup stage and move in?
Who at the club exactly approved the final plans?
How did the club agree to surrender their club liquor license and be forced out by a private run licensed cafe?
All good questions - I'd say though it is fortuitous they didn't sign a lease agreement given they didn't get what they want.
It's also conceivable they had a gun to their head to vacate aka East Perth and Perth Oval 25 years ago - either find the money to bring the ground up to scratch yourself or let us accommodate you.
I'm sure the council meant well when they started off this exercise, and I suspect the other tenants are happy, but as said, when the costs went a lot of eyes went off the ball as far as EFFC is concerned.
