Sad to hear that Peter has passed, I worked with Peter at the old DSS in 104 Murray St, funny man, good footballer ( personally I thought he was better than Max but .... ). I played in a game with the three Van helden boys, John O'connell, John Mustard  for DSS against Tax who had Doug Green and Joe McKay with a few other wafl players thrown in, Peter just cracked everyone up during the game.

Sad!

Gee that is sad news, cheers for that Grump....which one of the Van Helden boys was on the match day - round the ground scores back in the 80s? Remember there being one of them, just can't remember which one.

Some familiar names there Grump.  I played ammo footy at CBC when Peter was coach and went to school with John Mustard's brother Stephen if it's the same family.  Peter was a good bloke and it's sad to hear his passing.

I was lucky to have played with Peter at the Mt Pleasant juniors and later at EFFC and in Sunday League at Applecross.

A good friend, a great mate and a true gentleman. He will be missed!

He always amazed me with his wealth of detailed knowledge of WAFL football.

Vale Peter

Condolences to the Van Helden family

If memory serves me right Peter Van Helden was quite often a regular "winner'' of the Mamma Maria's Bull Oscar Of The Week Award in the Football Budget back in the 1970s & 1980s?
Usually for an outlandish comment and or his particular vernacular and use of big words in his around the grounds match reports on 6pr and his column in Westside Football or other publications of the time?
He was always a good listen and great read though and condolences go out to his family.
