Loersch and Tucker getting a run in the reserves v Subi. Jansen, Bonomelli and Marshall come in to the league, with Manning, Baskerville and Ryan going out with injury. Interesting to see no one actually dropped after that derby 95 pt debacle....2nd and last chances perhaps? Some talk of Griff and Jansen having last minute fitness tests, but heard both should be good to go.

Thought last weeks side looked good on paper, obviously not when it hit the park, so not sure what to think of this EF side v Peel. Both sides will be desperate for the 4 points, especially in this shortened season....

Bonomelli, Marshall and Ryan are all named on an 8 man bench - which will be trimmed tomorrow. But Bonomelli and Marshall are in and Ryan is out you say Freez? - that leaves two spots available to five players. Snadden you would think would almost certainly take one. That leaves the last spot for either Bailey, Bockman, Burton or Murphy. I would like to see Matthew Burton get the nod B and F for the two's last season and like young Tom Marshall yet to play a league game since Bill's arrival at the club. Both were in and out during the last 2 seasons of Rob's reign , different types from each other but both have good attributes and plenty to like about each.

The side last week should of been able to match South - at least on paper. But they simply did not have the willingness for the contest. South were relentless their hunger and fight to win the ball needs to be mentioned. There was a moment mid way during the 3 quarter on the eastern prison side wing when one of their players chased down Tassone (who had seemed to be well clear) to win a free kick and injured himself in the process. They were 10 goals in front at the time! But that is behind us, the side named for tomorrow looks a reasonable one too and I expect will get the job done.

Eardley, Kommer and Riach all last minute outs with Marshall, Murphy and Burton all coming off the emergency bench....any reason why?

Eardley had a cork. Not sure about the other 2. Murphy showed in patches that he has talent.

I guess on paper EF win v a half strength side Peel side looked a tad more solid then the win by Perth the week before v a half strength Peel side FF2...and Perth are at shorter odds for finals then EF...so still hope for EF I guess....a win is a win...good spread of goal kickers, with a few more to come back into the starting 22....Loersch, Kommer, Eardley, Riach, Tucker, Manning and Baskerville.

Anyone know how the reserves scratch match went v Subi?

By the time the match started 6 changes had been made to the side hammered by Souths last Saturday - including 3 to the named team. With more difficult opponents waiting in the weeks ahead the decision to rest Eardley and the injury prone Kommer against the weakest opponent we will face this season could prove to be a shrewd one.

The side that did take the field showed good intent and gusto from the first bounce and after Snuffy slotted a difficult set shot for goal early on at no point was the lead surrendered. It was an excellent first quarter kicking into an appreciable northerly wind, the entire score from last week nearly matched but more importantly just 1 goal conceded.

The 2nd term saw just 2 goals kicked - both by us, but with 60 percent of the possession in our hands the door had been left open a little for Peel. Come they did in the 3rd and they worked hard to get back into the match and to trail by just a goal at the last break.

Challenged by their opponents and then by the coach at 3rd quarter time the boys responded well in the last quarter. The instruction was to move the ball quickly, hit targets, if a man was on to give it to him and to go long because there would be deep targets. Bailey was moved into the ruck and Griffin and Strnadica both sat in the forward line.

Without 2 of our best mids someone was always going to have to find a bit extra to fill the gap and that player was probably Jordan Snadden who had a big last quarter at the centre bounces. Jared Jansen also stood tall when it looked like Peel were challenging. Milan Murdock was good all day showing his usual courage and kicked an excellent goal in the 3rd quarter. Both Bennett and Bockhurst were lively and certainly among our best.

Both sides had 37 inside 50's for the match so to win by 7 goals highlights the differences in the respective defences. Jupp, Winton and Leggett were all very good yesterday, Davies probably not quite at the level he can deliver. It is not easy to judge players with the holding role so not sure about Mills. Better performance by Davidson albeit against easier opponents then recent weeks - which goes for the entire side really and the next couple of weeks will provide a better picture of where we are at.

This week shows the gap between the best and worst teams. Be interesting to see how it pans out by season’s end.
