"Cody Leggett’s bitter clearance dispute ended in a fiasco when the long-kicking utility joined his target club East Fremantle because accident-prone Perth had inadvertently deregistered him.

The subject of a nine-month dispute during which Perth repeatedly refused to clear the talented utility player to the Sharks, saying it was a matter of principle that Leggett be held to his contract, the matter turned into a debacle this week when the Demons removed him from their primary playing list.

Leggett’s contract was voided once he was deregistered.

East Fremantle promptly registered the 24-year-old and intend to play him in their reserves scratch match against Claremont tomorrow morning.
They will pay Perth an $8000 transfer fee, well down on the $20,000 they offered the Demons when Leggett declared last year he wanted to join them this season.
Perth president Bob Shields confirmed that Leggett’s deregistration was an inadvertent administrative error.

“We will deal with it and be the stronger for it,” he said.
“We will take the transfer fee and get on with winning football games.”

Perth paid West Perth $5000 to clear ruckman Tim Sutherland in 2017 but he was able to move to Subiaco for free three months later because the Demons had failed to register him.

maybe 3rd time round they will get the jist of things

The mystery is why would EFFC pay $8000 for a deregistered player. Is there something in the WAFL rules that require payment for a deregistered player?

I'm referring to the Footy Commissions decision making on the season, rule changes etc etc.

Good to hear you are taking this well STT very grown up like considering Cody is so horrible for not wanting to play at your excellent club. Oh and how rotten of EFFC for giving Cody a new home when everyone should be being mean to him.

Yawn

Looks like Bob took your advice 30+, and fell asleep at the wheel mate....LOL...

StT, DD, DF ect, in the end you’ve lost nothing. Leggett would’ve gone to EF for 8k in 2021. It’s just been brought forward a few months. Which is a good thing for Leggett. Perth stuck to their guns and for whatever driving reason behind that, they still maintain face on their stance, IMO

We can now all look forward to Rd 4!!

Yuk it up, EF boys. We had our moment when Leggett's ludicrous arbitration claims were predictably thrown out, now it's your turn. Embarrassing mistake on our part. But - and this is directed mostly at you, Ti Em - do not, ever, try to occupy the moral high ground. It is galling that Leggett and EF have won in the end, but it changes nothing about the deceitful, disrespectful and unethical behaviour displayed by your club and your new player. You deserve each other. Good luck managing and massaging his colossal ego.
