It appears Adam Prior has paid his own transfer fee to leave East Perth and head back to play for North Albury. Is this a usual occurrence in the WAFL or more recently a bi-product of cash strapped clubs forcing players to cough up or go play ammos......

Didn't he leave last year. Where has this story come from all of a sudden?

North Albury aren't struggling for cash if they are coached by Akermanis and have a few ex AFL players on the list.

Prior did alright, kicked 70+ for the season.

It has most recently come to light because North Albury were about to go down the gurgler for another consecutive %100K+ loss. Prior was one of a few who was criticised by members for being one of their 'higher paid' players and along with other senior players was threatening to leave if he didn't get paid.

This was when he said he had to pay the transfer fee to East Perth himself!

Just looked at the article you must have been reading. He said he had to pay a percentage of the transfer fee which was $15K.

Looking back at other articles from last year it said he was contracted to EP for 2013. $15K for a contracted first 22 player isn't exactly extorion though is it?

Not like asking $30K for a player stuck in the reserves because his team keeps recruiting players trying to buy a premiership.

It's never good when clubs are thrown to the wall though. Hopefully the country WA teams are looking at the plight country Vic teams are going through. The amount of money on offer in the country leagues (especially leagues close to the metro area) is unsustanable, no matter how many farms or truckloads of grain the own.

Reading the article it appears that North Albury asked Prior to pay a percentage and that they would pay him back later. I presume it happens at other clubs across Australia with clubs budgeting for so many people to turn up to particular games etc... and they don't, thus leaving clubs in a hard spot financially.

No disrespect to Prior or North Albury FC but he is hardly going to attract the type of people/profits that Brendan Fevola or someone like that would for a game or two of footy.

Plus you have to ask how smart Prior was. If the team can't afford to pay your transfer fee how are they going to be able to pay your match payments.

Disappointed once again with East Perth. Highway robbery for a bloke who came over and gave his all and when we changed the rules and spat him out we do this. Nothing surprises me any more from WCEP
