Being an arch-pessimist, by both name and nature, I was very anxious about the trip to a ground where East Perth doesn't have a great record.
However, aside from a 10-minute burst from South Fremantle early in the second quarter, the Royals were never seriously threatened.
Both teams kicked 6 goals to the scoring (town) end for the afternoon, but East Perth's 6 goals at the hospital end were effectively the difference.
The Bulldogs got a lot of the ball but tended to chip it around a lot, whereas the Royals were far more direct.
Looking forward to Hamish Brayshaw's anticipated return against an improved Swan Districts next week.
The one concern from today was that Angus Schumacher may have been reported for a sling tackle in the third quarter.
There didn't appear to be much in the tackle to me (one eye blue, one eye black) given that there were some ferocious tackles laid over the 2 hours.

Chaddy, I'm glad you picked up my deliberate pun.
From many games sitting with your good self at Leederville over the years, you know how I always fear the worst (irrationally so in some cases) when it comes to watching the Mighty Royals.

Always good to win, particularly at Fremantle Oval. A really solid 4 quarter effort I thought. Brayshaw, Robertson, Wright (was he out through injury?), Msando (after suspension/injury), Graham hopefully all available sooner rather than later. No reports listed from the game, but that seems to have little relevance these days as Robertson and Msando weren't list as reported last year but still got time anyway.

I've just seen a West online article about Angus Schumacher being on report for a sling tackle on Bulldogs' debutant Lewis Rayson, JohnMc.
Hopefully, East Perth's tribunal rep is Tom Percy and, if so, he can get Angus off the charge, particularly given that most sling tackles are simply penalised by awarding a free kick to the opposition.
I'm sure Hamish Brayshaw will be right to play against Swans on Saturday after his 21-day absence under the new concussion protocols.
Robbo (22 disposals) had a pretty good hitout in the reserves yesterday and I hope he's included against Swans, who have some pretty smart forwards.
Tom Graham is still a week or two away by all accounts, while I think Jacob Msando has a week to serve on his three-week suspension incurred in last year's final home-and-away game against West Perth.
I'm not sure why Stan Wright was ruled out of yesterday's game - he was in civvies at the ground and appeared to be moving freely.

I suppose they had to look for something to spoil the day so they reported Schumacher.
we won the free kick count 19-13 and inside fifties 43-32
Souths looked very flat. Interesting to see what Swans bring this week.
