As 58shark said on the East Fremantle thread, a midseason trade week would make far more sense than a midseason draft.
I used to enjoy seeing which players changed clubs before the June 30 deadline in the WAFL and VFL.
I'm dating myself slightly, but about a third of the way into 1975, Richmond traded Francis Jackson, Brian Roberts and Graham Teasdale to South Melbourne in exchange for John Pitura. 
Jackson played 100 games for the Swans, Roberts almost won the Brownlow in 1975, and Teasdale won it in 1977, while Pitura hardly set the world on fire with the Tigers
If they had a trade week at the end of May, it would give players who weren't getting a look-in at one club a chance to try their luck at another.
This midseason draft is an AFL-orchestrated slap in the face to the WAFL.

Archie the AFL website has been talking about a mid season draft,all week.With the speculation of whos tradable and what clubs are prepared to pay for players.
Tex Walker who's had two reasonable seasons is on the radar.Gold Coast and the Western Bulldogs would of both had a crack at Tex,as a short term fix.

I think Tex would be a good short-term option for a team in contention for the flag, gtrxuone.
As such, the Western Bulldogs might have another crack at him for 2023.
I thought I read somewhere that Freo was also looking at Walker.
