With the Wildcats ahead 2:1 they should be declared the winner. Apparently it was Sydney who pulled out.

I think the east coasters will argue that Sydney topped the ladder from round 1 and finished the season on top so they should get the trophy. I say that's crap as Perth Glory finished a mile on top last year and look what happened to them in the play offs. 2-1 with a home game to come is a pretty strong argument as far as I'm concerned.

1.Sydney Kings forfeit the 2 Grand Final games remaining
2.Perth Wildcats are up 2-1 in the series in which 2 have been played in Sydney
3.Perth Wildcats lead the Sydney Kings head to head 5-2 during the current season

It should be a no brainer that the Perth Wildcats are named champions but of course Sydney (and Melbourne) mean everything to the NBL so watch this space!

P.S- NBL has consulted with the ICC:
4.Perth Wildcats have scored more 3 pointers during the Finals!!!

If the GF series’s was called off before it started then fair enough I’d have no argument awarding the title to Sydney but given they’ve played 3 it’s appropriate to award the championship to the team that’s leading the series.

If it was cancelled after game 2 then that would have been tricky. In that scenario I think awarding joint winners could have been the way to go. This isn’t the A league so finishing top means jack shit once the final starts.

Sydney have outscored Perth in the qualifying matches this season. The Kings have scored 1385 first half points to Perth's 1296. And Sydney scored 1257 second half points to Perth 1233. The Kings been on top of the ladder all season which is quite a feat. Having said that, Perth were looking hungry in the Finals and likely to have won the 4th match, but we'll never know for certain.
If the Wildcats are not awarded the Grand Final, maybe have joint winners this season?
Apparently a decision one way or the other will be made in a couple of days.

They should have at least played the 4th game, if Sydney won it and tied the series, they would take the chocolates after finishing on top, If the Cats won game 4, it's there's anyway. I'm being cynical by saying the kings want it awarded to them due to finishing top and dont want to play game 4 with a strong chance of losing.

The easy way out is to award joint winners, the Kings won the H & A series, the Cats won the finals series.

Actually like the way the A League does it whereby the team which finishes on top is named the Premiers and then a knock out finals series decides the season's Champions. At least the best performing side over the entire season wins some silverware even if they don't go on to become the champions as the Glory did last year.

If they don't award it to Perth then they should declare the team finishing on top at the end of the season the champions and not have a final series.
