The best things of the day for me, and there wasn't that many, was the form of Charlie Le Fanu and Bill Fetherstonhaugh. They stood up straight away and both played excellent games I thought. I liked the game of that Swans recruit Daniels as well. Straight ahead type of player. Mullet, no-nonsense.

Maybe Freeze is right about Herring. Fingers crossed that he something more than that up his sleeve than what he showed yesterday.

I'm glad to see Nathan Phillips back. I was hoping he'd change his mind. Too much talent not to give it one more shot. His knee has passed various triathalon tests in the last few months so hopefully he'll have a bit of luck at last with his footy.

But yeah a lot of guys still to come in - Buddy Pickett, Callum Sinclair**, James Garcia, Nathan Phillips, Antoni Grover, Andrew McDougall (at some stage), George Hampson, Rhys Waters, Dan Leishman, Aidan Parker, Brad Stevenson, Cam Wohling, Mark Nicoski*, Rowen McDonnell, Dom Sheed plus a bunch of reserves/possible league players - Symonds, Ward, Wade, Seva Martin, Hay, Hoskins - that we need back from injury to put pressure on as well.

But that needs to be balanced out by saying that East Perth were without Cripps*, Morton*, Lycett*, Wilson*, Lee, Anderson, Swan and Maldenis. Not too sure who was missing from their reserves set-up.

A lot of ammos players tried in the ressies. A few - Cameron Fabian and Baldave "Big" Singh look to have some long term potential. Not too sure about the other ammos to be honest.

A few young blokes - Tom Smith, Simon Moore, Matt Bogensperger, Luke Norriss should be in the league mix and looked in reasonable nick.

All things considered, we knew it would be a tough season and sure enough it is already.

I'm still excited that footy's back.

You're right mate, no point being too pessimistic atm, alot to come back in but I get really pissed when we fade after being miles ahead for most of the game, it happens all to much lately & I was hoping it was a thing of the past with our new supposed "super fitness". Just goes to show its more to do with whats between the ears.

Did Phillips play ressies? What is Gum's injury?

LH I remember going to Claremont Oval in 2010 for one of the pre season scratch matches & Claremont annhilated Swans by about 130 points that day & I remember leaving the ground thinking it was going to be a very loooooonnnggg year for the black ducks ...well we all know what the end result was from that year!! B) :cheer:

Scratch match results mean absolutely nothing in the big picture!!

Yeah still hopeful we can sneak into 4th spot. I think we'll be competitive.

But like DG, I'm worried about the reason for the fade out. 1 goal in a half of football.

DG - I think Phillips will play his first game of ressies next week.

I really hope he has some luck because he is a good player.

Gum hopefully just a rolled ankle.

BH - how did you guys rate Daniels at Swans? Having watched him yesterday from a Subi perspective, he definitely has something. He's an interesting style of player. Runs heavy (As Fos Williams used to say), straight at the contest, no shirking. You Basso lads still got the mullet in use too! :silly:

There's one player who's not up to it. Wasn't last year either. No point me mentioning his name but people really rate him. Not just as a player who is good enough to play league but also good enough to be a star. I can't figure it out.

Jeez 1 game into pre season and it sounds like everyone writing them off. Give em a go half the side changed and a new coach and game plan give it a chance . I didn't think everyone was expecting miricales. I thought at times when they stuck to the game plan and structures all went well. Time will tell and that's why they use pre season to test things out to see how it all works. It's 1 game down, how about if they are zip and 4 by round 4 then maybe things look grim but until then how about giving them a chance.
