I know Claremont are probably doing this for some of their members. But It's a bit of robbing Peter to pay Paul really.

I'm all for trying different things but in this day and age time changes to league games must be publicised for a few weeks ahead. And 12.30...nah too early for a lot of punters. Doesn't worry me personally because I'm at the games at 9.00am for the colts but I'm thinking of others who have commitments up until 12.30/1pm most Saturdays.

How good was Hampson today, kicked 4 I think. Frank the Tank and Delahunty did well against Seaby. C Deluca could have finished with 9 if he kicked straight but kicked a ripper from the boundary on the wrong side for a lefty. Fantastic pressure all day and ran out the game really well. Horse and Clanger still to come in so we are looking good. Won all three grades for the 2nd week in a row.

Why couldn't the game be played at Medibank Friday night as they have lights?? Or Sunday as it will clash with nothing at 2.05pm?

Staggering.

COLTS
Subiaco 11-8 d Claremont 9-13
Goals: JJ Woodley 2, Vermeersch 2, Grace 2, A Kennedy 2, Wilkinson, Cary, JU Woodley 1
Best: Bryan, Buscall, Hatch, Clark, Summers, L Hooper, Creeper, Lowndes

A really fantastic performance against the colts premiership favourites in a very high standard game.

For almost the entire match Claremont seemed to have control of the ball but Subi were able to stay in the contest by virtue of their tackling, harassing, spoiling and smothering. Sometimes it was something as simple as getting a hand in to chop off a handball to a free player. Nevertheless, Claremont were dominating the possession count.

Midway through the last quarter Subi were four goals down and Claremont seemed to have done enough but the boys persisted. Abraham Kennedy slotted an important goal. Cody Grace sprang to life to give Subi the lead with only a few minutes to go and then big Jak Cary delivered the sealer with a wonderful running goal.

RESERVES
Subiaco 21-19 d Claremont 6-2

Best: Wheeler, Fetherstonhaugh, Blechynden, Madut, Bestry, Scafidi, Smith, Heal, Horsley, Le Fanu, Boyle

That was a comprehensive performance. A lot of these lads are desperate to force their way into the league side and it shows by the way they are playing. The selectors are keeping them hungry but I'm sure if they keep banging down the door like this they will be rewarded and it's important that they are rewarded.

LEAGUE
Subiaco 18-22 d Claremont 6-14
Goals: Hampson 4, C DeLuca 3, Yarran 2, J DeLuca 2, Moore 2, Davey, Kayler-Thomson, Waters, Boland, Bristow 1
Best: Hampson, Phelan, C DeLuca, J DeLuca, Twomey, Mahoney, Stevenson, Bristow, Yarran, Delahunty, Kennedy

It's an unusual feeling to thump Claremont. Over recent years the Tigers have been hard to beat. Seeing them defeated in this manner is rare. Sure, they are rebuilding but they are rebuilding with genuine former colts stars and players like Neates, Blackwell, Seaby, Bradshaw, Foster, Williams, Ledger, Murphy, Orzel, Davies and Williams still form the heart of a very dangerous side. But they really miss danger forwards - Medhurst, Jones and Richardson.

Right from the first bounce Subi looked switched on. Shane Yarran was proving to be more than a handful for Aaron Holt and the move was made to switch tough nut Brendan Abbott on to him. Not only is Yarran a mercurial and often brilliant player - but he presents and presents. Leading way up the ground and then doubling back to the goal square to provide another option. George Hampson played an absolutely scintillating first half. Chris DeLuca - with 20 plus league games under his belt - is now reproducing the form from his colts days. His forward pressure was outstanding and he capped off a fine game with three goals. Younger brother Josh also played an excellent game. He was able to cut through the Claremont midfield and defence with his pace and good clean ground skills on many occasions.

It helps of course when the midfield wins the ball. Brett Mahoney played his best game of the year. Chris Phelan is having a break-out season and racked up 30 possessions. Bristow, Waters and Joyce were also very solid. Claremont placed a lot of emphasis on trying to shut down Shaun Hildebrandt and in a sense it worked although this opened up the game for others.

Down back - Darren Rumble continues to get the job done. It's vintage Rumble this season. Wayde Twomey runs the ball out of defence with precision and provides an option for a team mate under pressure. Dylan Elliott wears his opponent closely. Brad Stevenson looks well suited to playing in the back half. Young Hayden Kennedy - like all Mines fellas - is tougher than a rusty nail but also has very good skills. At some stage in the future, one could imagine him moving into the midfield and causing havoc.

It was a good day to be a Subi supporter.

Yes very impressive performance, great to beat the tiges anytime any margin. They look a different side atm & yeah Stinga its great not having to deal with that menace richardson anymore. So far we are showing great skills, pace & most importantly relentless pressure & its good to have depth from the boys in the magoos. Also good to see some of the boys that have been around for a while but never really fired starting to make their mark ie Phelan, Davey, Joyce etc & the recruits all look the goods for a change. Not getting too far ahead but things are looking ok atm...really looking forward to smashing freo next week & having a crack at wc in coming weeks...

You hit the nail on the head with Phelan mate. He's made all the difference. Much more bash and crash about him now. Couple that new approach with his usual good foot skills and we have a top notch player.

But yeah, as you say, some challenges to come. Don't think the Dockers will be easy to beat in Mandurah anymore.

Yes very impressive. It' the first time I've seen them other than scratchies earlier in the year. What really impressed me is their defensive pressure on the ball carrier. Subi's tackling and general harassment was sensational. I thought Twomey played really well given Tiges put a defensive forward on him in an attempt to close down his run off half back but he still managed to have an impact. I also think Subi smashed them in clearances. Bristow, Phelan, Waters and Mahoney aren't superstars but they really work hard around the ground and with Horse and MacDougall to come back in I think Schofield really has something to work with.

if Subi were a race horse there would be a steward's inquiry under way for sure. What's in the feed fellas???? Super impressive so far. Twomey certainly is proving to be good value as expected.
