Just a scratch match as the sayin' goes but didn't play well at all. Easily beaten 5-11 to 11-12

I came away from the game still unsure of who might line-up in round 1. Not that many putting their hand up really. A handful that did well from my vantage point.

Chris Phelan: Looks to have taken a step up. Best game I've ever seen him play - including those at colts level.

Frank Stockley: Takes marks, gets the ball on the ground. Almost like an extra midfielder.

Shane Yarran: Not as damaging as last week but still was our best forward with 2 goals.

Charlie Le Fanu: Tough as nails, quick and can break lines.

Dylan Elliott: Second week in a row that he has worn his opponent like a coat.

Hayden Kennedy: Fearless that kid...great skills as well. Shame he had to come off the ground with a leg injury. Looks ready for league football.

Darren Rumble: Showed signs of that close checking, strong marking full back that we have come to know and respect. Need him at 100% this year.

Josh DeLuca: Can still play colts but is putting himself in the league frame already. Like his older brother, doesn't take a backward step.

Lachlan DeLahunty: An interesting tall utility. Sort of Troy Longmuir-ish maybe. But I did notice for the second week in a row that some of his kicks slew away a bit to the left. Maybe he's just getting used to the Burley?

Jimmy Garcia: 100% effort..always gives a contest in the air and on the ground. Not his best kicking day maybe though but I rate him highly.

Those missing that would normally be in contention at least:

Joel Ashman, Chris DeLuca, Brad Stevenson, Andrew McDougall, Nick Hay, Buddy Pickett, Brad McDonald, Clancy Wheeler, Robbie Forrest, Scott Worthington, Kyal Horsley, Matt Bogensperger (Played ressies but surely must be in line for a league spot judging by his form), Justin Joyce, Brett Mahoney, Ray Daniels....so a fair few possibilities.

Colts didn't play, ressies had a good win. Madut, Halligan, Scafidi, Jackson, Bogensperger, Stewart, Bestry, Vawser, Garvey, Norriss, Symonds, Clarke, Fetherstonhaugh all looking in good form.

Hopefully we can lift for the season proper. There won't be any easy games this year.

haha, couldnt get to the game this week Dags but I know we had 7 or so of our top liners out, no injuries just rotated. I havent got a f*cken clue what is going to pan out this year mate. Im happy with our likely line up but if the Roygles and Peel dominate, there is not too much room left for finals spots. The standard injuries and slow starts will determine the other 2 spots I rekn.

I wouldn't be too worried yet Ben - Steady Steady let's see what the season brings ?
Subi probably won't be in the finals but as long as we have a crack and develop players for our future I don't care. We have some good talent coming through and I'm hopefull that we're not far off ???

I couldn't make the scratchy (had to cut up the golf course in Bunbury)
Thanks for the run-down. Is there any chance of players lists who fronted up in the 1sts & Maggoos ?

Good summary Ben, lots of first picks sitting out the game but same applied for Joondy. Was impressed by Joondy looked very fit considering they would have strated their pre-season later than most, they worked hard to get back and clog our mid-field and forward line consistently, gave us no room at all hence the big number of turnovers as our players had to stop and try and find a clear target. On the occasions we did create some space we moved the ball well but finishing was very poor. Agree re Delahunty, gets the ball well takes a good mark and will be damaging once he straightens up his kicking.

We looked very short down back,(bring back the Shuff) Joondy's big bodies up forward wore the backs down hence the big 2nd half for them. Stockleys a great pick up, not an elite ruckman by any means but a real honest toiler who will give our mids a good share of the pill and as you said follows up with good body & ground work. I think he's just 25 if so he's hitting prime time for a big bloke. Will get more support when Clanger comes in. Twomey down back is interesting as he was a class forward at the Ducks.

Looks like plenty of mids in reasonable form with Brissy back fit and Forrest to come in plus Horsely down the track. Any clue when he will have his first run?

Twomey rarely played forward for Swans, has been one of the best half backs in the comp with occasional stints on ball including tagging Blackwell out of the 2010 GF.
played forward in the state game last year though and kicked 5 i think..
you must have him confused with Geappen..

Cheers Mark, Twomey does have a presence down back and it was clear he will "captain" the backs along with Rumba.

Shame we couldn't get both he and Swoop, but good for you guys to convince him to pull the boots on again, he is a class act.
