This week's round 10 sees us approaching the mid-part of the season, so thought it would be a good time to reflect on what has happened so far.
The downside is that we sit at the bottom of the table only ahead of Perth by percentage and given they beat us in round 1, there's a fair bit of truth in DGs contention we are the worst side in the WAFL.
The upside is that we've only been blown away once and that was against East Freo, and have been more than competitive in all our other losses. But, they are losses nonetheless.
We can point to injuries playing their part but the same can be said for every other side with EP having the most according to the injury hub on the WAFL site and they're currently on top.
Our ressies and colts are well placed in their respective top 5s, so I think there's plenty of scope to turn things around but I'm not sure Wardman is the right person to drive that. I think he needs to throw the magnets around and play the Wagen driver full time in the ruck and maybe move Eaton down back for extra height and stability. Also, give more of the youngsters a crack to see what rises to the top. Who knows there might be a hidden gem in there somewhere.
Whilst Clark is playing some good footy, we seemed to have lost that bit of leadership Kitch brought to the table, so reckon the senior players need to step up and take ownership as if not, it's going to be a pretty dismal second half of the season.
I don't know about everyone else but I'd sooner give the young guys an extended crack and lose by a lot, than keep going as we are with the same older hands and accumulate more honourable losses as the season progresses.
Looking forward to hearing the opinions of others.
