I can't wait for the season proper to start as it's an opportunity for the seniors to redeem themselves after a pretty poor year in 2022.  I have no idea what the team will look like this week as I don't think the scratchies were anything to go by.

I'm sure quite a few young blokes will get a chance as I think we're still missing a few of our best 22 but based on recent results, I think we should go ok.  Probably a good thing we're playing Perth who seem pretty unsettled as well with a new coach and president as the last thing we'd need is a shellacking from a WP or Claremont to start off.

I'll wait for the team to be named before making a prediction but fingers crossed we kick off with a win to get some confidence going with the young blokes.

hi bc...not sure how you define best 22 as its fluid? if its the best 22 from last year then this wasnt good enough because we finished 7th. what is your best 22 based on recent results? i personally think we must look forward and play 'non-regulars' so that they become regulars and have a chance to cement their spot in the best 22. we cannot always play guys purely based on the past and should be rewarding form...which is now.

Going on pre season form BC I'd say your mob will be too sharp for us. It's going to take German a while to find his best 22 and mould them into his style of play and skill level he demands. We are missing a few key players.

Good question Coogee.  I think Borchet, Stainsby, Mayo and Lockyer would all be in our best 22 if fit but as you say, there's others like Eaton, Robbins, Snadden to name a few who need to step up and start performing consistently.

Looking forward to it. Like I said before we need to play guys who are hard at it with relentless pressure and put fear into the opposition, reputation or not. That’s when we were at our best in previous years- guys like the Deluca bros in the fwd line, particularly Chris

The mids group are far stronger this year with Schoey and Hayden joining Kitch, Giro, the Hickmonts, & Snadden, Walters & Golding and big Zac getting plenty of hitouts will make the mids job far easier. Not sure Braut will play first up, he looked pretty rusty so maybe a game in the 2's will serve him better, his physicality was sadly missed last year. Mcgowan would not surprise if he lines up, quality young player who has pace great disposal and plenty of smarts. The forwards will be ok with Sok and Borch if he's fit and possibly Tholstrop, Clarke resting in the square will be dangerous and a few of the young small forwards particularly Rob Hansen can have an impact. Wagenknecht the tall young ruck from Esperance did ok in the earlier scratchies, kicked a couple as well. The backs will be solid with experienced guys like Gus, Heal & Rohde along with young guys Savigni and Henderson and perhaps Mcgowan should stand up against most forward lines. So I would expect us to do well against Perth but they are a bit of an unknown, should be a good game first up, with a fine day 26 so the evening wont get too chilly in the outer.

Nana was pretty good with the crochet hook DD, I'll bring a selection for you to peruse, happy to donate one to your cause, I think I have one in rainbow colours that would fit in nicely in the Pigpen.
